I was wondering what my sata chipset is heres what it says under my device manager

IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers
--Primary IDE Channel
--Primary IDE channel
--Secondary IDE Channel
--Secondary IDE Channel
--Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
--Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller

It says nothing about SATA/ Serial ATA, but i have SATA. Is there any way to find out what my specific chipset is.

BTW its onboard

you should get all the info about the chipset from your motherboard manual thats what the sata controller runs off.

prebuilt computers (OEM) , such as Dell and all that.. they're quite good, but i've had much problems with this , as other parts i purchased weren't compatible with my OEM pc... also there was 1 recovery disc for XP, which installed all drivers etc for the current setup. so i had to replace everything..

my dad works at such a business... they buy heaps of XP licenses from MS, but as pre-installed... every once in a while a whole bunch of legit XP-cd's are getting thrown away. ahhh i remember selling these at school $$

if you have such a PC, i wouldn't recommend trying to flash

I have flashed my drive with this chipset.

I just want to know what it is so i can see if its compatible with other drives
(when i flashed my drive i took a 400 dollar risk)

have a look at the motherboard itself there should normally be a make and model stamp plus look at the chipset on the board normally these have writting on that could give you a good indication.

upon POST (power on self test) for others that are reading this normally gives the make and model of the motherboard plus BIOS (Basic input output system) revision.

Hope this helps

http://rapidshare.com/files/25943142/OMG_Whats_My_SATA_chipset.rar

Heres a picture, it was to big to put on a picture hosting site so i put in on rapidshare for whoever can figure this out to download.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. the file is so big because it was taken with a 7 megapixel camera. But you can zoom all the way down to the little numbers on the motherboard and still be able to read them :D

take pictures of the four corners of the motherboard so it over laps each other hence you end up with all of the motherboard.

when your pc boots you should get a single beep at that point what does it show on your screen?

should tell you your cpu memory dvd-drives HDD etc etc
