What causes this problem? The Xbox hangs and goes to a grey screen and fllickers. After this the chip won't boot. I only found one reference to this in the forum. It wasn't doing it the other day?

Any suggestions. I just replaced the wire install with a pin header install and used a multi to test all points for continuity. I have them memorized by now.

Any suggestions?

What is the status of the eject LED during this problem?

Have you ever had the X3 boot successfully?

Ever seen anything on the screen since the install?

Does the console boot normally with the chip removed?
Yes. It was working fine and then at some point is started
going grey and locking.

I can boot with and without the chip. Both of the lights are blue, the first thing I did when it started locking was check the status leds.

I don't know what you mean by ever seen anything on the screen.
I was loading files on the xbox from the auto installer disc the first time it happened. It also causes the disc to spin up. So i tried another disc(retail) and the same thing happens.

I went back over all the traces with a scalpel to make sure none of them were bridged. It started happening when the wire install was done so I switched to pin header because I thought it may have been crosstalk.

Also the screen has been turning into a red box too. Its either grey or red. I have tried both the original cables and the Microsoft Component video pack.

Whenever it does this thought it will not boot up again. I also tried resoldering D0 to make sure it was getting a good connection. The LPC has been completely resoldered and tested using a multi to verify traces up to an inch away.

does this happen from boot, or does it work then turn grey and flickers?

Sounds like something to do with your regional format any chance you've changed your bios settings or the region's auto-changed.
Or possibly a solder splash on the av out area of the mobo?

It does it after the video has been playing for a while. I am currently checking all solder points where I was working again to be sure.

Thats exactly what it looks like but it turns either red or grey. debug is turned off. I think it may have been a short on the lpc . Its not doing it right now but I'll have to test some more. (I just touched up some of the repair tracks.)
I'll report what I find out later.

Hello,

I had simliar situation few months back. I'm almost positive that one or more lpc pins or traces are contacting each other. i suggest before resoldering, completly remove any solder residue and throughly clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.

I hope you get your problem resolved. I know it must be very frustrating soldering, checking and resoldering again.

Its not doing it anymore so it must have been a trace short.

For some reason Steel Batallion crashes when it accesses the disc though.

Any Ideas?

Switching circuit board from old 360 to elite

Hello this is my first post and I would like to say thanx for the help in advance.
I have a BANNED old original xbox 360 and I am about to trade my PS3 for a elite 360... I was wondering if taking apart the old 360 is the same as taking apart a elite and if I switch my flashed firmware circuit board from the old one into the elite if it will work and I wont be banned anymore...Reason im wanting to switch is because I did not flash it but I already replaced the drive so I know I can do that part... Thank you
