Why? It would make the worlds most boring video. The pictures in the tutorials that are linked off the front page are far more useful, can be printed out, and kept beside you as you solder.

actually a video tutorial would probably have a good chance at winning the x3 contest

I don't believe that one is necessary...if you don't have the confidence without seeing a video, then your chances of breaking your Xbox are very high. Soldering techniques vary from person to person, so what works for someone in a "video" may not work for you. Practice is the best method, just go find a junk mainboard or chip and practice soldering wires to random points on the board. I recommend you to work with all sized points on a junk board as you will run into both large and small points when soldering to the Xbox. Once you try it and gain enough confidence you will see why a video isn't needed.

I had never soldered before working on my 1.6 xbox with the x3 chip. I bought the cheapest low power iron and some solder and I looked at the pictures. My biggest problem during the whole thing was when I switched hands with the iron, I grabbed it like it was a pencil. I also did splash a big drop of solder on the bottom of the board, but was able to soak it all back up. Took about 2 weeks for my finger to heal up, but even with a bum burned finger I was able to do the soldering.

Dont be a baby just do it. Find an old modem or video card that you dont use and practice if you need to.

yea when i first got my soldering iron from my dad and powered it up, i wasn't exactly sure where it was hot and where it wasn't and i touched a metal piece near the handle and my thumb got burned pretty bad:rolleyes:. But it only hurt for abotu an hour but i ended up with a blister the rest of the day. Just make sure you guys hold it by the handle and not by the metal part:p

my argument is this, if someone has confidence enough in their soldering, that they'll record themselves doing it, it will make the noobs think its really easy, and possibly cause them to jump right in and mess it all up, the pictures should be enough, at least they give no false ideals.

i can see it now..
*noob sees it installed in 4 min*
*noob takes 300w soldering iron and solder*
*noob kills motherboard in one try*
*noob makes 3 or 4 threads asking why it doesnt work*
*noob doesnt get much help, and/or told he messed up*
*noob dissapears for a day then makes a "x3 chip doesnt work" thread*
*noob blames the chip for a few more days then gets banned*

a pictoral and video guide to soldering in general would be more useful.

The only way I think your soldering becomes better is through practice. I have been soldering for years, and modding an xbox is no challange. If you have never used a soldering iron before though, I would get some practice before running in and making a mess like some people do.

Just think this; if you sign up to a modchip forum and say make a topic with the title "Seriously someone should make a video of soldering... " you should problably seek professional installation of your modchip.
