Shorted Corona Board

Hey guys,
While i was wiring my new fan setup on my corona board, i was being reckless with the console powered on and a bare 12v wire bouncing around the place, i shorted somewhere on the topside of the board under where the disk drive would be. The console just beeps now when i try to power it on (no lights, no other sign of life). The light on the power brick stays yellow 100% of the time. I was hoping someone could advise me what would be the best course of action to fix it (where to look, how to check components, etc). I have another corona board lying around with a blown southbridge so i might be able to use some parts from that
Any help would be awesome,
Thanks in advance

my advise is to never touch another console again :)

you can look for parts of the console that may have blown/burnt components or traces (start with the area where the loose wire was) ..

may help if you post really high quality hi-res pics of the top and bottom of the board

Haha, after this i dont ever want to look at one again! I tried taking pics with my best camera but its still terrible quality. Ive had a good long look but everything looks okay, no visibly burnt out caps or anything like that. Will i have to check every single component in that area with the multimeter? and if so, how will i be able to tell what are the correct values and such. Also, i have tested a good few resistors but cant get a reading. They are hardly all blown!
Thanks for the quick reply :)

Hope you didn't kill your CPU or southbridge, happened to a customer that brought theirs in to me who had a similar short happen while they were modding it as well.

my heart literally just sank when reading your post!
If it happens to be the CGPU then i can replace that, i have a spare but i have no spare southbridge

I just thought of something. I have 2 rf boards both with modded leds. Im not sure if they can display the error codes. So if the console is giving an error code but i cant see it, would the middle power led be on at least?

are you getting 3.3v, 5v or 12v on the board ?

check you voltages as you may have blown or shorted MOSFETs

check HERE .. it shows a trinity board but will help for sure

Here is a pic i pulled from online (identical to my board). These are my standby voltages. BLUE = 5v ---- RED = 3.3v ---- WHITE =0.15v. Are these the voltages you wanted me to check?

Not much else has voltage running through it to be honest, all of the mosfets are 0v. I thought they would at least have something

Checked every fuse i could find, all fine. I read that you cant test mosfets when they are on the board and that they are generally wired in parallel so if one blows, the current/voltage builds up in the other mosfets and blows them too. Is this true?

I just found 5 mosfets that are drain/source shorted, the other 10 are not. That must be the problem right?

Honestly If I was you I'd send it to someone who know how to repair your issue. I know my fair share about 360 motherboards but that would be something I'd send to a pro after checking the fuses.

I know we all hate to send our stuff to someone to fix our screwup & I'm a stubborn guy that likes to learn myself, but thats prob where I'd throw in the towel.

Also a good rule is to never power on a console with a loose +5 or +12 wire unless it has heatshrink over it.

Yes.

Yes, but there could be other problems. The biggest factor here is how much free time you have to f**k around. :D

I too am very stubborn and honestly i dont have the funds to get it professionally repaired. I know the odds of it ever working again are slim (hehe, slim, get it?!) but hey, i like fixing things so its worth a little more effort.
It was very stupid of me to leave the wire loose. And another good rule is to never mod a console or anything for that matter at 3am!
