I currently have an 2.3Blite+ (.4983) installed in my v1.0 xbox w/ avalaunch dashboard.

I have been debating on upgrading to the new X3 CE chip but I am unsure if it will be worth it. Id like to be able to change the logos and animations throughout the xbox but are those the only new features that apply to non-developers? Ive read the feature list posted in the other forums but they arent too specific on what the gains are over the older chips.

it looks as if the x3 runs its own dashboard, is this correct?

1. How much time do you spend looking at the logos and flubber animation?
2. Does the current chip do everything you need (backup, HDD access, etc)?
3. Can you desolder so that you can install the new chip?

Personally, unless you are looking at getting the XLCD, or X3CP, I wouldn't bother. There are better things to spend your $60 on.

There's an old saying:

"If it's not broke don't fix it!"

that question is like asking do I brush my teeth today or do I wear pants today. all these are for you to decide so if you are happy with what you got then don't, if you are not happy or just want to keep up with what is current then do. Hope this helps you decide.

now, if we all thought that way in this world of ours, where would we be right now?
There would be a lot less junk laying around!

I decided to brush my teeth today - pants can wait until tomorrow. Advantage of telecommuting I guess :)

Just make sure you don't have to de-solder your jeans tomorrow mate!

I had the same question a week ago, but when I found out that you can upgrade your hard drive easily with the X3 chip and bios, have a password to use your xbox, and all the other cool stuff this chip can do, I ordered one straight away. I get mine Saturday, I can't wait. First time installing a chip though, I had my X2.3B Lite fitted at a modding shop. So I hope it goes well. But if it works, it will be worth it.

about your question :
no, it doesn't have its own dash, but it has something called X3 Config Live, it looks like a dash but its used to tweek your box and change the settings only, you cant make it launch all your apps and games like a dash (but i dont know about the new bios ;) )

PS - you can see a pic of the new one at team xecuter's homepage

I have evo-x on my C drive. It launches as the dash now with my X2.3B Lite. When I install the X3 chip and flash the X3 bios, will evo x load up? how will I get to evo-x if not? Iheard that you hold the white button to got to X3 Config Live.

x3 config live boots at start. you can turn it off by disabling the config live auto start. to get to ur reg dash just select the button at the bottom of config live that says boot to dash.
