shutting down xbox game?

hi, i was wondering if there was a way to shut down the xbox or reset it to the dashboard after playing a game like need for speed 2 off the dvdrom.
so far all i been doing is pushing the power button.

Get a dashboard or something that will bypass the DVD rom, and not auto play games.

thx guys it worked. just that i have to be right by the xbox to take out the dvd before it reloads it.
