How important is it that you have an extra side cooling fan on the Xbox if you have a 7200rpm 160gb WD HD and an X3 in a v1.1 Xbox?

I have seen sites say that if you use yur box for more than 3 hours than your gonna need one, but it all seems like an advertising scheme. It doesn't take long to use it for 3 hours. If you watch a movie and play the a game for 2 hours than your already at 4 hours. Sometimes i use it for even longer than 4-5 hours. Dont we all? Will I be alright or do you all use/recommend an extra side fan?

im going to look into a side cooling fan for one box that i chipped for a customer....it does have a 7200rpm 40gb but ive done others with 7200 and larger sizes that dont have heat issues
but this customer also leaves his box on and running for days on end i think....he gets freezeing problems quite often

the only issue ive found with any hard drives is that some like my WD 2000JB can overheat the processor very quickly

the solution is to turn it upside down

my xbox is right next to my radiator which is on at full blast so doubt you will need a hard drive cooler

No problems with my xbox, 200gb maxtor, 80mm fan usually running at 40%.

My kid neighbour leaves his on for days on end, same with his PS2 (they're both packed closely into a tv stand with no ventilation). I can't count how many times I've told him to turn them off or they'll die - he's on his 2nd PS2 and still doesn't listen to my advice. His freezes often!

So i take it we don't really need one, unless we notice overheating is becoming common and a problem?

that's a big 10-4 but even then u can still take actions to over come the heat issue before putting a fan on the side of the case....cause that does look like ass imho

I also never had a problem, before I went to bed at night I turn the dedicated server thing on for Rainow Six 3 and it could have been on for 48+ hours at one time, I do leave the top side of the case up for that long however. But I am looking for a better fan/cooling stuff

LMFAO he deleted the worng quote lol

and man you need to learn nobody gives a f*** how big you are its what you know

so my reply to that post is i dont give a F*** how big he is its how much hes knows

like they say (who is they WTF) Knowledge is power

(i dont spell top well so you hetter hury up and find everything wrong so i can come back and beat you down LMFAO j/k)

okay now if your like me and your box freezes (usually on complex graphics) you can add a heat sink (i need to get one) and then if you still have problems then 12v mod the fan or get an 80mm (stock=70mm) and make it so it runs on 12v and also people dont think that extra 10 mils is much but hey thats a whole cm. now multiply that (by what i have no idea :? ) and you will see that it really adds alot of surface area so it really will make a diff and dont forget the stockers are cheap and have prolly designed blades and blade angles but a new one should be better in thoughs areas too

good luck

oh and man you need to look at some does custom carz and bikes out there i mean lot the ppl i work with (i fab and build bikes and cars) consider themselves necks and they can put out some great sh*t

yeah i didn't write that but oh well. I will hold off on buying a side fan, as it sounds as if nobody has them anyway.
