I'm looking for a quiet and efficient, yet cheap, way to cool my 360.
I've seen a lot of variations but not a lot of 'actual' data as to their efficiency which makes it difficult.
I'm thinking of a few options, as following:
1. As title suggests, run a single Noctua NF-S12B FLX within the case. At 120mm this will almost, but not quite, butt up against the CPU heatsink. This to be run off the rear fans 3 pin connector. Stock fans removed. Pros: The fan is discretely inside the case. Cons: Wondering whether enough air will be exhausted from the CPU heatsink given its orientation.
2. Mount same fan but on top of the case dead centre of console covering the GPU, heatsink and most of the CPU's heatsink. Pros: The fan will essentially sit above the CPU and GPU (not the heatpipe) heatsinks. Cons: Aesthetics.
3. Same as 1. but reverse the rear fans to blow air in whilst the 120mm fan in drive bay will act as an exhaust. Power 120mm fan by spare pc 4 pin connector (xbox permanently lives next to my pc anyway). Set rear fans to auto in Freestyle Dash for quietness. Currently sound like a freight train on my Falcon at the minimum of 65%. Slight hum on auto, but cooking temps when on auto!
My main issue is I can't solder (12v mod) and no one mods in my area (about 150km drive) and I'm really couldn't be arsed driving.
In anyone's opinion would 1. work. Option 2 is still ok but would prefer a neater job. Otherwise, its trial and error.
Thanks...
