i have tried a usb pen now as well all on a different comp still no avail. i noticed when slax was booting via usb it gets a via southbridge error. i dont know what to do. its really frying my head. i thounght getting it into modeb would be the easiest part. i have tried differnt ports on the card to me its a mystery. i dont want to give up :-(

You might want to consider getting the SATA version Kreon drive (SH-D163A or TS-H353A). That would make backing up originals alot easier since you don't have to hotswap and patch files, you can just insert the game, click a button and it dumps the complete image.
Any DVD-ROM will work for the hotswap method of backing up originals.

thats my next investment then along with some dvd+r dl discs. im pretty supprised tho that slax doesnt work for me i thought this would be a sure fire way to get the drive into modeB.

i know tell me about it i tried using different types of slax the usb loader version, 2.1 and 2, i think they are frodo edition or something. im soo determined to get it done.
could the fact that i am not gettin the spinning up disc error have anything to do with it? is there anyway to ensure that it appears? ive even re-installed my sata card. i must be forgetting a simple step but im following text's guide step by step. if i could just get it into modeB i would be sorted.
to start with i have all the leads plugged in, slax disc or usb in computer, power on at the same time on the disc slax loads do not get the spinning up disc message slax loads to the login screen, i test for modeB no joy.
when i use the usb pen i get a message about some video error or something and says wait 30 secs or press space to continue. i press nothing then it loads to the login in screen. check for modeB no joy.

I had the same problem on mine. I was booting them at the same time using a Slax 2.1 disc and a 6421A. Used all three Slax discs and all got to the login but no ModeB. I eventually got it working by booting the Slax disc on the PC, then after it was booted turned on the 360. This is after the Slax logo, when the script starts. Listen for the disc to start spinning faster. This should work, but try a few times because it may require perfect timing.Jenkosz said:

we have a winner napoleon has ended my problems. hopefully this can be a lesson to other people how in the future might come across this problem. there is a slight nack to it got it in about the 2-3 try. i would like to thank everyone who has posted in this thread for sharing thier knowledge on the subject and i would like to thank text for making a 100 page pdf document showing the world his insights to 360 modding.
