I bought a slim and the dvd drive won't open.

There is no drilling on the pcb, all ribbons look connected perfectly, all solder points are good.

I greased the gears and clean the wheel.

But the drive is still not opening. I have the case off and i can hear the drive click as if to eject but it won't.

Is it possible to unbrick it (if it is bricked) without the key?

If the drive is mechanically faulty then reflashing it is not the priority.

Use JF to get the dummy.bin first and foremost.

It's an RGH, so you don't even need a DVD drive. What's the big hurry?

because it is a customers slim. and he uses tx forum to make him money because he cannot think or troubleshoot for himself. as you can see, this irks me. especially when the questions are common sense ones like this one

In the case of a spelling error, I blame Tapatalk.

joe, if you could pay someone $30 to flash a dvd drive instead of buying the kit for $100 im sure you would pay the $30.

if you could pay someone $60 to RGH your console or get everything you need and attempt it as a complete n00b you would rather pay the $60.

with these assumptions that everyone on here is a moderately-wise person, if you are buying these tools you plan on doing it more than once. and its not a common occurrence where people have multiple consoles they want to just mod/flash/jtag or what have you. The majority are using TX products as a financial gain so do not come on here high and mighty. I am simply asking for help with a product i am new with.

Now, I tried with the slim unlock and JF came back "slim unlock returned with an error." then "unlock failed"

now according to what i have read this means that the dvd drive belonged to a 13599+ console and it now requires an unlock pcb am i correct?

Your going about it wrong. Don't click slim unlock.

1) Go over to the "Dvd key" tab.
2) Click "Slim Key".
3) When asked "Power off then back on". (Some drives don't require this).
4) JF will grab your key off the pcb.
5) Save your dummy.bin file as you will need it regardless.

Martin asked you to do this first. You should always do this before attempting anything. You don't have to unlock a locked slim drive to read the key off of it. Unlocking is for writing to the pcb only.
