Slim Flashing Back to Stock - Not Needed

I know this is old news, but I had to search for it. Figured maybe it would save some time for others who also did not know given the recent update. If you have an SPI locked slim that is already flashed with LT+ firmware you do not need to flash back to stock for updates. The firmware has no way of beign read or written to during a dash update. This is from C4eva, so it's solid.

This may be common knowledge, but I was news to me. Wish I would have known before I tore apart my console to flash back to stock for the update last night. :duh:

You have to unlock your slim liteon drive in order to flash it. All that means is it must be locked after you flash. If you have a sputnik or replacement PCB, you simply put the switch in the lock position. Or if you are bare bones, you solder back the trace cut.

I have the Sputnik360 on my drive and my friend has also said that I shouldn't need to flash back to stock to update but I was wondering if this was true for all updates? Basically, would I be safe to do kernel updates without reflashing. He said that he thinks as long as it doesnt affect the fw then i should be safe since its locked.

Yes, you should be fine. However, please keep in mind that this does NOT mean playing on XBL on a new kernel is safe. This can only be confirmed by C4EVA and a live log. As an exmaple, 16202 has not been confirmed via live log by him yet (just checked), so it is best to stay off of XBL until this is released.

There is no danger of an udpate flashing your drive though, the point of my original post.

I also have never flashed my spi locked slims back to stock, I wait for C4EVA to give the OK then I do the dash update from a burned cd with the update on it never do the live update.
