RGH Slim nand points destroyed

So the DemoN will read/write the nand in a different way to NAND-X? Might be worth holding out for DemoN release before playing with it further, but not knowing the solder points for DemoN I don't know whether it will need to use the same points and thus be back to square one, any info on that score?

I don't possess an infectus/progskeet/cygnos chip and don't really see the need to own one or learn how to use one so on the other hand I'm thinking that I might send it to someone who does to just get the nand read and .ecc written so I at least have the CPU key and can modify it at a later date should I choose to wait for DemoN.

Thanks for the assistance.

The devices I listed all read write to the NAND directly. The NAND-x uses SPI communication via the southbridge (which is where the flashconfig also comes from incidentally).

If your console is working but the SPI is knackered, you can use a NAND reader/writer to access it. If you work on consoles I would strongly urge you getting something for contingency as it's not a good idea to just rely on SPI communication being ok. I have a progskeet with a 360-clip for this very reason. It's also the safest way to deal with corrupted SMC (no power on after bad flash ) as you can just erase the first part of the NAND with it.

If you send it to someone who can get the .ecc written to it, then yeah, you just need a USB stick to flash it. However get it wrong and you're left with no means to update.

Hmmm might be a wise option with DemoN coming round the corner to have a backup NAND reader/writer just in case, plus I am doing more and more RGH's of late.... can you point me in the direction of a good tutorial for using something like the Progskeet - I assume they are roughly similar price wise?

Thanks,

Progskeet and 360-clip together will set you back around $70-80. Remember that it's a universal NAND/NOR flasher so has a multitude of uses. The progskeet software (winskeet) is pretty easy to use as well. Help is over on the progskeet forums should you choose this path.

Depends on where you shop around - I bought the v1 progskeet and the extra 50 pin ZIF for the solderless addon's to work.

I think you can shop around to get cheaper, but the £75 mark might be on the money.

Ok thanks,

One last question - typically what other applications have you found yourself using the Progskeet for other than reading/writing Nand to Xbox 360's? I'm weighing up the pro's and cons of say sending the board to you for coolrunner installation, or spending £100 odd buying the progskeet and doing it myself and having it for future use, but just wondering how much potential use I would actually get out of it, and so the cheaper more convienient option may be to relent my bravado and send it to a pro to sort out in this instance.

Cheers,

thought the progskeet solderless clips were

1 crap
2 cant be re-used
What would make then un-reusuable? Looks like it's clip-on/clip-off as required?

the ones made by 360-clip.com once used recess the pins and they dont spring back out for the next one, so if it fits one its unlikely to fit another as the pins can be slightly aligned differently console to console, i know i bought both nand and nor for doing the ps3 and there rubbish.

biggest waste ive spent on of late.
i ended up doing the wire install on the ps3 sucsessfully.

now im led to believe the progskeet team are releasing there own version thats supposed to be good and reuseable.
