dunno ive just donr my first slim there now and tested it with just the board. no drive or wireless card. times are anything from 1 min 50 seconds till 10 seconds but mainly around the 40 to 50 mark.

must go now and look into how to improve them

Yes , my slim boots in 30 secs with wifi card in and , 5 secs without it. As I prefer wired networking I have left the wifi card out but, would be really nice to know how to get rid of that damned 'Built In Wifi' panel in NXE dash !

On the slims i tend to run the blue cable around the outside of the board in an "S" shape rather than coil it.
Every slim i have done so far boots within 10-15 seconds.

I found if you wrap the cable in a coil and the coil is too small it wont boot at all.

Yep, electrical induction of the cabling seems to be a big factor.

I'm wondering whether smaller core and similar insulation (speaker wire type) would have a better effect...

i cut my cable to 50 cm (it comes as 55 even tho the tut i read said it should be 50) i went a squiggly shape with the wire and im now getting best case 5 worst case 30 but normally 15 on the button which is a lot better than the original 15secs-1minute 50 secs but still not the 10 seconds ubergeeks tut said slims should be booting up in no more than.

will look at it again tomorrow, maybe shave of 1 cm at a time cos i tried it in 10s earlier and had to get another cable as after i removed the second 10 the consolde wouldnt boot and the green light on the chip wasnt even lighting.

its a bit frustrating. tbh the boot times wouldnt bother me that much but its for somebody else

Using the wire included in the package I get boot times of any where between 10 to 30 seconds. Average is about 22-25 seconds. I tried 40cm and then 30cm and it just got worse. I read in other forums that this isn't much about length, but shielding instead. Some have had success with mini coax cable, they're getting boot times of 5 to 10 seconds.
Just ordered some 30 awg mini coax cable, will give this a shot in the next few days....

have tried cutting it, using longer wire, coiling it, uncoiling it, shielding it and still i cant get constant 10 sec boot times. its soo bloody annoying:confused:

For my slim installs I just bunch the wiring in a bow shape and poke it under the xclamp, all of the ones i've done have had consistent 5-10 sec boot time (which is usiually either first glitch attempt or second), no cutting of the wire, stock length that is supplied with the Coolrunner.

Before placing wiring under the clamp i was getting 15-60 sec.
I don't use QSB's.

EDIT: Also, another thing, if it doesn't glitch within 10-15 secs or so, just turn it off and on agian, i've found on some customers boxes that if they sit there for 15+ secs without glitching and then you turn it off and on agian they will usiually glitch straight away.

It's console specific. I've done about 30 installs on slims now with the same positioning of wires and same length cables and results will vary every time.
