hi
a friend of mine brought me his slim as he said he tried to update his dashboard and it got stuck half way through now its stuck in an update loop. so I opened it up to look at the drive, and I was amazed at what I was looking at. Someone had got a dg-16d2s pcb and cut a hole at the bottom of the drive to feed the leads through. so this is the answer why it is now stuck in an update loop, as some idiot has spoofed the drive. My question is if I buy him a unlocked pcb and flash his key to it and keep spi unlocked would this get it out of the update loop?, as it must be trying to lock the drive when it cant as the wrong pcb is inside.
I would appreciate any advise anyone has on this
thanks

It will be the chip rejecting the firmware, or likely a method of going into its programming mode. Like how JF does when you try loading the wrong firmware onto a drive.

You will have to replace it with another slim drive or a replacement PCB, and with the replacement PCB's you can simply unlock it after its updated and put custom firmware.

You'll likely find someone tried to spoof it back when there was no firmware for an 0225 or some other crazy reason! But likely was the only solution, if you can post some pics I would love to see how butchered this console looks!

You should flash back to stock firmware, update dash then flash back
Not with a 16d2s PHAT PCB in the drive....

But is advised with a replacement PCB. Although we didn't bother and it still worked fine.

thanks for the advise
so do I need to get a pcb that is pre 12535 (9504 drive) that is unlocked
or any unlocked dg-16d4s that was unlocked using Sputnik360 or KAMEKAZE

as the dashboard he tried to update to was one past 12535 that flashes your drive with xdg3

ill post some pic soon once I find my camera

Have you got the original dump from the old slim drive not the spoofed phat as you will have a problem otherwise

no my friend brought the console online so was never opened by him or me until we found this

I was reading up that the slim completely different to the phat drive to how the security is very different. I did read that I could have problems with flashing the key with a different drive without the orignal thats why I asked if it was possible, and people on here just said to buy another drive which I thought I may have problems doing that.

Try to lizfix your key onto an original slim lite-on PCB with 0272 fw. TX replacement pcb will not work.

If that doesn't work you can try "key area rebuilder" with 0225 fw or any other (0401 1071)

However your best option is to rgh the console to determine your original drive type.

hi
the orignal drive is defo a 9504 as it locked up when he tried updating to 13599 from 12525. so it tried to flash drive to 0225 and lock it. which it couldnt as it had a liteon phat pcb connected to it.
so if i buy a unlocked pre 12525 9504 pcb and some how inject the key into the firmware on that pcb would it fix this problem or not
thanks
