Slow booting falcon jtag

My falcon jtag seems to be stuck at xbox logo at boot up for a long time before the NXE dash appear. However the miniblade is accessible and I can load any games or apps on disk but not directly off the hard drive during this process. I am using Nand X qsb and using aud_clamp and open_tray jtag points. I am stumped atm. What can I do to fix this booting issue?

Firstly i would say thats its probably not jtag related as this issue has happened to lots of stock consoles. tbh mate im not sure if anything can be done. some say that it is a sign of the rrod on its way. A friends stock console had this issue for months and played fine. his would take anywhere from 30-60 seconds to boot.

change the console setting to boot dashboard first (unless it is)
and do you have dash launch or any other dash set to load first IE: freestyle?

Ah I see where you going with this. I too have a falcon jtag which takes about 10 seconds roughly to boot up. It will sit at the logo screen for a few seconds after being switched on, a pop-up then shows that my profile is logged on, and then the freestyle dash appears.

So Obelix007 is your jtag doing this? or are you having to wait like 30-60 seconds till it boots?

If I set the console to boot into freestyle then it would boot normally but if I set it into MS dash, it can take anywhere from 10-40min.

Bloody hell!! 5 minutes is the longest my mate had to wait. Here a couple thing to try

1, Disconnnect the HDD and then boot up
2, Try clearing the cache
3, Set it to boot into freestyle dash and hold RB whilst booting up, does it still take forever to load NXE?
4, Disable the display detection in the console settings if you have enabled.

Man, now my console does just plain stuck at xbox logo at startup. The miniblade is accessible but that all I can do with it. I am going to try the xclamp fix to see if that makes a difference at all.

So I did the xclamp fix and still same issue. If I restore the original nand then it boots up fine. What's up with this console????

Try compiling a new freeboot image from your original NAND dump and see how that boots!

Are you using the QSB's or wires and diodes? Perhaps it's worth rewiring the JTAG connectiosn with fresh diodes?

I always use BAT41 diodes instead of 1N4148.

I agree. It might be your diodes. Im using the nand-x qsb and when ever i set the qsb to 0 it boot instantly but more E79's, If i set the resistance to 330 it takes 5-10 seconds to boot but less E79's. At 470 it takes longer. So i suggest trying a different diode.

Tried with new diodes and still same issue. I have to say that I have learned a lot more than I would have on jtagging if I didn't encounter this problem. But time to shelve this project for a while as I have spend way too much time on it for the last 3 wks. Thanks for all the input and help you guys have provided.
