Slow FTP rates.

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone was able to come up with a reason why FTP rates are so slow. I was able to get 2000k once. But it always runs at 150-170KB, thats slow...but it works. I have a WTR54G and it doesn't matter where I FTP from, PC 1(wireless),PC 2(wireless), PC 3(wired) , Laptop(wireless/wired) all the same. I am not sure what caused it to FTP fast that one time. I am able to run multiple connects to the xbox via FTP and they all run at 150-160KB, seems odd that it can handle many connects with out a problem but can't run one connection fast. Let me know what you guys think.

What are you using for the FTP server on the Xbox, and has it changed since you saw the 2000k rate? I know Avalaunch had a boost mode, I think this (or something similar) has been incorporated into both XBMC and UnleashX as well. The app serving up the data can play a roll in this.

I am using the Evox Dashboard for the FTP server. Nothing changed since I seen the 2000k. Thanks for looking.

What size are the files you are transferring? You will see higher transfer rates on large files than you will small.

Doesn't matter what file size. 700MB movie or a 10MB MP3 same speed, bursts to 224K/Bs down to 155-160K/Bs. Just stays there. I can connect with 2 different computers at once and I still get the same speed at the same time, so I know it can run faster.

Try and make a baseline test. Eliminate the rest of your network. Connect just a PC and the Xbox via a crossover cable. Assuming the cable is up to CAT5 standards this should get you the best possible results. If you see the rate has increased then it pretty much points the finger to something in your network.

EvolutionX is an old dashboard that has not been updated for a while. Try a newer dashboard such as Avalaunch or UnleashX.

I know Avalaunch had a boost mode, I think this (or something similar) has been incorporated into both XBMC and UnleashX as well.

To follow on the heels of Fantmx's post (give or take 36 hours) EvoX does not have the same FTP support as the dashes I mentioned. You are definitely seeing the improvement with XBMC since its FTP server is coded with more advanced support than what is in EvoX.
