it ll be magic if you can add an smb server on the xecuter 3 bios

why?
because with it we could share all the media on the xbox to other xbox, pc ... on the network and dont use alway the ftp ...

because it is boring to download on local place and then read,

because read directely from a xbox : win time and space on the "reader"

the xbox will be "The media source"

sorry for my english but i m french

no i don't really, it's great for streaming music and the such, but you would still need to use ftp to get any kind of decent speed transdering files.

SMB still requires you to download to the host then transfer to the remote location it just looks like it is direct becasue the local transfer goes to memory. I believe the current ftp server supports fxp though does it not? This would give you the same result should be faster due to less overhead and it is already a feature of the X3.

Mickeyiec: look for xbmc it does what you want without wierd bios additions.

Sorry I forgot about the server addition when replying. In any event there should be some server options such as fedora core 3 being ported and it includes a samba server. The best way to do what you want will be with an application not a bios addition.

XNS is another option - Xbox Network Server ... there is a client for the PC, but it is not as clean as the SMB "SAMBA" stlye options. I know its avaialbe for XBMC.

Problem with server style apps on the Xbox is that unless you are in the applicaiton (or an application that supports the server), you disable the server whenever you are doing anything else - the Xbox has no background process, and putting it into the BIOS means that you would need to leave the Xbox in ConfigLive for it to be any use to you - so, unless you leave it in a dashboard (inc XBMC) whenever you are not using the Xbox (and can ensure noone else is going to use the box or turn it off while you are not there), then its not a particularly useful feature for anything except installs - and then you can use FTP instead.
