Hi,

As you may know tis is my first post on the forums, i read the rules about first posting and searched and searched but there seemed to be no poles or discussions about the better one.
So i decided to post here.

I have been thinking of modding my xbox for a long time now and am still thinking wether to Softmod (which i have all the equipment for) or an Xecuter 3 (which costs £40)
I have £75
i already have an xbox in my house but it is my brothers and i dont want to mod his, incase anything goes wrong so if anyone knows any decent sales or auctions for an xbox can you please tell me.

i realise th advantages of an xecuter with live and stuff but also a softmod i think is easier and more convenient but with all the news and talk about the executer 3 i really dont know what to choose.
(Sorry if i told you my whole life story)
Thanks,

The X3 is by far going to be much more versatile.... You can do so many things with the X3 chip!!! The support for the chip is also way better than any other out there right now.... If there was a site that had a count of chips sold, my money would be on the fact that the X3 has sold the most out of any other chip!! I would save yourself the hassle of trying something else and just go right for the best!!! Get yourself an X3 and make it the first and last chip you will ever want to buy!!!! Unless of course there is a new Xecuter chip that would ever come out.....<<<I don't think that will happen though...

Opinions vary, those who have the X3 obviously love it (mine is in the mail) and those who have softmodded and succeeded love thiers as well. Softmods I have honestly found very little support for while the X3... well you get the idea. I have tried a softmod and never gotten it to work on my 1.0. I will say 2 things and if I am wrong I am certain somebody will chime in.

1. X3 can be disabled for Live (if that is in fact your fancy, most soft mods cannot)

2. While doing a mod of this manner can mess up your box if done incorrectly, the odds of the X3 being the one to do it are far less (like 1 in 100,000,000,000) than those of a softmod I would give a 1 in 10 that you botch it.

But in the end the choice is yours and can only be made by doing research. You personally would have to try them both to make your own mind and as that is the case I would go with the most likely to succeed.

There is no denying the unstoppable pimpness that is the x3. That being said, if you're strapped for cash, softmodding has come a long way.
There are now exploits that will allow to play on Live! with a softmodded xbox. They are known as UDE, UDE2, and UXE (in order of recency).

Do lots of reading and research if you choose to softmod. Google the hell out of it. Here are some links to get you started:
UDE2 tutorial: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=251354
UXE tutorial: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=285877

Good luck...

softmodding is ghetto.

save your money. get a 2.6 if you have to. there is no comparing having a chip vs a softmod.

K thanks but i only have £70-40=30 for an xbox, ill need to get saving if i want both.
Selecting the chip before buying the Xbox is like putting the cart infront of the horse ...

Buy the Xbox when you get enough cash together - at least that way you can enjoy playing games for awhile first. Don't softmod - I suspect you'll regret it later. Once you have the cash together, buy whatever the latest chip is then (will there be an X4 out in '05?). Who knows - prices might come down a little.

Well I have a different slant on this than others on here :)

I have had Xecuter chips for awhile. My main gaming machine has always had some form of Xecuter in it. Have never ever had a problem.

But... I also have a spare Xbox. I use this one for my streaming media in my living room. This one I have soft modded. I modded it using the UDE2 xploit. It was a piece of cake to mod. I have everything backed up in case it would ever go bad (which it hasnt in over a year). When I have company over for some gaming, we use the softmodded system too. Runs all games no problem. (There used to be compatibility problems with two games, but that has been worked out).

I did not want to buy another modchip if I did not have to. That is the reason I softmoded. On my main system that I play on, I wanted to trick out the box with LCD and such so X3 was my choice.

If you are strapped for cash. Try the xploit. Just requires some way to get the xploit on the system. You can either get it on a memory card or swap the xbox hard drive into a pc. The latter is harder. (I have done both and was able to get everything working) Some people have problems getting the xploit onto a memory card. I just ordered the free usb adapter from microsoft, threw a flash thumb drive onto it and used it as a memory card. Piece of cake.
