:?: Software Q's :?:

:? What is the best option to choose when install software
1)Install Slayer's EvoX Auto Installer 2.6

2)Manually install EvoX, DVD2Xbox, BoExplorer, XBMP, XBMC, XbFTP & HDDLoader

Please Everyone post your opinion and your suggestions

Personally, I'd go the Slayers route ... it puts everything but the kitchen sink on the HDD.

BUT if you are going to manually install really look at what you are installing and why:

Dashboard - Evox
Backup SW - DVD2XBOX, HDDLoader <= why do you need both?
File Mgr - BoExplorer ... never used it. Mostly manipulate via FTP anyway.
Media Player - XBMC superceeds XBMP, so you don't need both.
FTP Client - XbFTP (with this do you need to even bother with BoExplorer?)

If you are just going to install everything anyway, you might as well go with Slayers install, then over time remove the apps you aren't using, and edit the menus as you go.

BTW - I'd take Smarties over M&Ms anyday ... except the Caramel M&Ms they had over here a year or two back. American chocolate sucks compared to the Australian stuff.

Why not?

Do you think slayers LOCKS them down with a ball and chain.

Definately. I installed Slayers, and removed the crap I didn't need, like Xenium checkers, HDDLoader (I use DVD2Xbox). I also deleted XBMP, and upgraded XBMC.

Everything is in the right place, it is just a case of deleting the appropriate directories and editting the ini file.

Take it easy and its not something you can muck up too much (and if you do - just reinstall Slayers off the CD).

you should just install the individual applications yourself instead of using slayers....you'll learn more that way, and plus when you install the applications yourself, it's not that hard at all....there's alot of stuff out there on how to do it, but you pretty much just ftp everything to your c: or f: or g: drive. your dashboard is the one that has to be in the c: dir....but most everything else can be anywhere you like....it's really not hard...alot of people will agree with me, so try it out yourself.....and if you don't like it , just use slayers!!!

Definitely go for it manually. This is one of those things where you want to know where everything is at you know. Plus it can give you a jump start on editing ini files and such. Knowing where everything is and having folders set in structures you understand is key to programs that will run how you want them.

I went the manual route too - that way you get your 'box exactly as you want it. PLUS I had trouble loading CDR's with my crappy Thompson DVD drive.

Just hook it up via FTP and go for it !!
