length?

doesnt make sense

use rosin cored solder, and a fine tip iron.

if you need to ask these sorts of questions you shouldnt really be soldering at all TBH

not trying to be rude but its kind of a fundimental thing to know when soldering...... not for novices!!

any diameter will do but if you use really thick stuff it will get in the way when soldering fine points.

Sorry not length, diameter. Ugh.

Shouldn't be soldering at all? Kind of rude...
A good solderer doesnt realy care that much about the diameter of the solder, i myself usually uses 0.5mm lead free solder when installing RGH ( i jump down to 0.3mm if im going to solder post QSB).

Keep your tip clean and tinned, the right amount of heat, use some good flux and some quality solder and start practice before you start ruining your xbox!

Yes I know. I just don't like wrecking things. Got me flux, soldering station, and le kit, with helping hands. Just wanted to find out about the solder. But anyways, thanks.

Yea a lot of these guys on here are pretty rude. if you have any questions just message me. People forget everyone's a beginner sometime. I won't be one of those people that say "google it". I really think they shouldn't even respond if they have nothing useful to say. Hit me up though.

I gotta say in my opinion that's an unfair statement to make. Have you thought about the fact that if you only answer questions all the time then no one will learn to find the answers themselves? People get too eager and make mistakes, sometimes big mistakes. Teaching people how to find info especially when there is so much of it in the forums is not being rude. If people have questions and have genuinely looked for answers more than 1 google search or 1 forum search, they get help. In my opinion it's when people don't put in the effort to read a sticky for the issue they have when they ask questions. that's when people say, "hey, google it". or "look for it in the correct section and it'll be there". Spoon feeding every single person is a waste of time, thats why there are stickies and multiple of the same threads out there. cuz not only did people ask the same question multiple times but multiple ways. The info is there and if people want to find it they can, if they need help finding it they can get it but if they don't want to take the time to read any of it before jumping into any project they will mess up their equipment, tools, and never know how to figure it out on their own without "help me! help me!" in the top of every thread. People who need more help than reading a few stickies or taking the time to search through threads until they get a better understanding will not get help because everyone else would be too busy helping out people who don't have the patience to search or skim through threads. Xecuter actually has a thread for basic materials. Basic soldering iron, solder to use, flux to use, etc. It's there, you just gotta put in the time to look.

I agree with you 100% bro. But then if you believe the person is not doing their do diligence and not doing the basic research they should be doing before asking questions, then just don't reply. Why go that extra mile and give the guy a hard time when all you have to do is ignore it. It's rude when you take that extra time to point out the fact that they are a noob or don't know what they are doing. Either don't respond to the post or leave it so someone else who doesn't mind helping decides to leave some helpful positive feedback. I mean is it that hard to resist not posting and pointing out the guy doesn't sound like he knows what he is doing??

I can tell you one example that has happened a few times, when people don't answer questions. the OPs post multiple threads in all the wrong sections and get irritated and bump the threads a few hours after the thread was started multiple times until someone says something. I'm up for helping people but there is also some times when it's like, really? have you tried the find function on your browser and used it on the main forum page? 5 seconds and you would have a general idea where to start. Sometimes saying stuff like that causes people not to think their too noob but to realize they're too impatient. Impatient people will fry their stuff then get pissed when they have to blow another $50 at least for a replacement for something they botched up when they could have read something that would have prevented it. Some times it just sounds rude when it's really pointing out the most obvious thing to teach the person so they can find a way to get the info the next time they need it.

That is completely understandable if someone is bumping a thread over and over and posting multiple times. At that point i believe it is actually okay to be rude because they do need to wait or research more. But isn't that also when the moderator get's involved? Also that wasn't the case with this guy.

No - this guy starts a thread and lists 'Computer electronics, Pc gaming, Modding' as his skills, yet can't perform a simple search. OP, you and others need to re-read the rules again. There's a link in my sig.

If you don't agree to the rules, please let me know and I'll close your account.

My ultimate kit came today. :DDDDDDD Raged in happiness for about an hour, lol, but now I need some solder. What length of solder can I use?
Practice with some old circuit board.

First CLEAN!!!

Remember put some flux, put the soldering iron directly to the part where you are going to solder and then add the solder with rosin core, don't do it in other way or you are going to have some balls of solder that will not make contact with the circuit.

Ugh, I put Computer electronics because I know how everything works, how to remove viruses, etc. And I put modding because I used to mod wii's for people. When I heard about this jtagging stuff I wanted to start modding xbox's. So sorry if I didn't look at a sticky, or even asked this dumb question, And I understand that you're a professional, I am just very curious and need all the answers so I can make modding for me easy. :frown:
