Just got one of those fancy soldering irons, which the temperature could be adjusted. I see suggestions to get 15w up to 30w How does this translate in temperature? Thanks

300-350 is usually good. If you don't like it just play with the temperature until you have it set where you want.

350 usually but really depends. If the solder is melting fine lower if it's stubborn lead free I up it deg by deg till its flowing like it should

mine is set to 260 , you dont want it too hot or you`ll burn sh*t up or knock resistors off . If you have it a bit lower and hit the wrong componant you will have a little time to take it off again . IMO 350 is way too hot !!

Depends on your level of expertise entirely, I also use between 325-350c solder melts quicker = less time on the board. As a beginner start lower maybe as you'll likely to spend longer with the iron on the board.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm sort of a beginner so i'll start at the lower temp around 260c as suggested and work my way up to 350c. These experiments will be on an old printer PCB I have lying around
