Hi,

Now I openly admit to possessing more money than sense, that's not to say I'm rich, more seriously deficient in sense! :p

Treated myself to a solder station as got a few of these RGH to do and I like owning gadgets and tools so was just wondering if anyone has any advice on appropriate temperature to use, found with my old cheaper soldering iron 15W took a very long time to heat and melt the solder and 30W could sometimes be a little fierce so hoping I'll have a little more control with this.

Thanks chaps, know as always I can rely on those here for some sensible advice.

Really depends on your skill, I got an adjustable 15-60w, I usually have it around 30w and it makes it nice and quick and never botched any jobs so far.

Yeah a lot of people seem to recommend a 15W iron but mine, and it may well be faulty, takes an awful long time to heat the solder to melting point, even if I let it warm up for 15 minutes first, seemed much worse when I fitted a smaller tip to do the finer stuff, I'm assuming because there was less heat contained by the iron, although I understand the temperature may well have been the same. My 30W works quite well for the larger points but the tip is a little agricultural for the finer points and I'll be damned if I can find any smaller replacement tips for the thing. So decided to buy a decent versatile iron as I'm getting into this modding stuff, it's a great hobby and I like owning decent tools, never know when they might come in handy!

Thanks for the replies fellas, seems 340-350 is the range to set it at.
