My tip on my iron seems to be dulling so I am looking to buy a chisel tip iron but was wondering if certain stations can only use certain tips. (The station I use is a cheap china reflow/solder station Here )

Also I have been having trouble cutting traces so I was looking for a good tool to make it easier. The products I have in mind were on xConsoles. Should I go with the Xecuter fiberglass brush or the xacto style brush.

Thanks

hello, I do not have an answer for you, but I am interested in your question. I am going to be soldering soon, and I was also wondering about the tips. Can anyone suggest a size to use for the phat xbox360? Also, I've heard about people recommending practicing on other things before soldering on the xbox. Do you recommend we solder on a broken xbox or just a computer chip of some kind? Sorry if I am hijacking your thread btw.

i would recommend fine tip and 30 w and if you never done this on a xbox before yes you would have to practice on a old dead xbox or something like that

You can usually use any quality tip that fits your station and is of the proper wattage..Also I would highly recommend XConsoles they are a top of the line company and if they sell it you can be sure it is quality.Cog

Some people need to read the forum rules..Hijacking is a huge no-no and a banning offense.Cog

Not all tips work on all pencils. Your station looks almost like a hakko style 900m tip setup but i'm not too sure. I use a .8mm tip for most of my work but i do change to a .5mm sometimes. I have a weller WESD51 and only use weller tips. I cut traces with an X-acto and scrape em with either a fiberglass pen or some of my tiny tools i've aquired and made over the years. In a pinch, a small piece of fine sandpaper folded into a point will shine up a trace for ya.

Thanks! I'm gonna start practicing on some dead boards with an xacto knife.
