solution to error 13

My original problem: all dashes were accidently removed out of box 1.0 running unknown chip and getting err 13 (no dash) upon booting.

1.would a slayers auto installer work to try to ftp the dashes back over? (I have backups)

2. If that is possible, when installing am I going to loose any unsaved data already on the hdd?

Slayers sucks. I would burn a disk with avalaunch on it and log into the avalaunch FTP to transfer new dashboard files in. I think you can download the M$ dash from the usual places. If you just use a disk with avalaunch on it, you will not loose any data unless you delete it yourself. With slayers, I don't know. I havn't used it in soo long that I forget. And wtf do you mean by "Unknown Chip?"
