right guys, i have a problem with my xbox slim. had it rgh for a while now, more than a year without issues. but for the past 2-3 months now i would get a red light console goes off nothing/no error on screen. then i would hard reboot and would work fine after that no issues can play for hours.

but now today everytime i load up a game, let it run for a min or 2 then get red light and blank screen. all the time. so i dont know if its a cpu/gpu issue or what or the coolrunner chip. when i inspect the reading values of the fan/cpu/gpu etc on freestyle dash or within a game its all 40% and below, or is that 43 degrees and below i cant recall.

here are some photos of my setup. i opened the console earlier to see if any wires were maybe burnt/broken on the coolrunner chip but everything looks fine.

console does not have a issue booting up, it only shuts off when playing games

Probably the XCGPU. You can narrow it down by opening your console and adding some weight (a few books) to the top of the XCGPU heatsink and playing a game (does it run longer before crashing?). If so, you need a reflow or reball.

you may want to include pictures of the rest of the install, like stby_clk cpu_rst and Post_out just to see if anything maybe shorting. best to take good pics of any soldering done to it. but first see if you can check the secondary error code on the xbox and that will help pinpoint the problem.

Hi basically it happens at different types. But only during gameplay. To all games. It happens within a space of 2-10min anywhere around that time.

So u think a reflow should be done?

That's my best guess based upon the info you've given. If your console hasn't been reflowed before, I would recommend that you re-ball instead of reflow, otherwise this will eventually happen again.

I spoke to one of the xbox gurus in my area, he suspected it might be the power supply. as it turns orange the light on psu when the red dot appears. as it doesnt go red. said that when playing a game it draws alot of power. when im on the dashboard i get no red dot.

It's certainly possible. Do you have any spare ATX PSUs?

Keep in mind that:

"The Xbox 360 E console uses a 120-watt PSU.
The Xbox 360 S console uses a 135-watt PSU.
The Xbox 360 "phat" consoles use a 203-watt PSU, a 175-watt PSU, or a 150-watt PSU respectively."

Meaning that a PSU which supplies 18Amps on the 12v rail (12V*18A=216 Watts) can be used to power all models. The wiring will be different for each.

Hey ok so this happened to my friend once and this is what we did so when u have xbox case off BTW it probably is coolrunner chip because somtimes a major fuse in it blows and it could also be that one of the little flat clips on it popped out and be really careful because it will short really easily so just get a really small screwdriver to pop it back in place.

Hope this helps sorry about the struggle :^(

The console was working for 2 years before he experienced crashing issues and is still able to boot. Unless he fiddled with something, I don't think it's the Coolrunner.

Could be, I know another fix that might work

There is a power cord transistor coil in the xbox that sends the power from plug from wall or extension cord to the adapter and then to the xbox

so the power may have an effect

if ur wondering how i know this my dad worked at microsoft And gets gift cards every month or so i took multiple classes on the xbox360 with him so i know a bunch of technichal issues :rolleyes2:

Hi guys, so this morning i decided to reformat my external hdd where freestyle dash is on, recopied FSD3 and still same problem. then i loaded up the original dash without loading FSD3 first. booted into the microsoft dashboard after a few seconds, i loaded up an original game in the disc tray and booted it up. worked 100% fine no issues, no shutdown no red dot nothing. as soon as i restart and boot with freestyle dash even before I get to load a game now i get the red dot
