Hi guys I've run into a problem a couple of times now with certain chips I have that just either refuse to glitch or glitch in 5+ mins.

My first one was a revision A in a batch way back when they were first released.

Basically heres what I have done. I install coolrunner get xell booting with a known good chip. Then while keeping the wires in place on the board I swap chips out with suspect chip. Chip 1 boots 10x times under a minute while chip 2 doesn't boot or boots over 5 mins. I run this test several times.

Then I reinstall chip 1 and get the same result boot times in under a minute. I got another chip in today that is having the save results either not booting or taking over 5 mins to boot. Though when switched out with another works fine.

My question is could this be a impact problem? A chip problem? I had one chip that wouldnt green awhile back and ended up being a lose switch on coolrunner but got that one working.

Is there a way to find if its a faulty chip? Has anyone else ran into similar issues?

Post up some pics of the suspect chips, so we can see if they are fakes. Likely you have been sold fakes...

Were did you buy them from?

I wouldn't blame the Coolrunners. IF they are genuine products then it's usually a stubborn Console that is the problem. Some of the consoles that I fitted Coolrunners to have been as slow as hell and very random / irratic boot times. I used the same Coolrunner in another console and it worked perfectly.

Good Luck on lowering your boot times..

I'm pretty sure they are authentic I have ordered over 30 since they came out. I order mostly through vgcrepairs.

I just don't get how a couple specific coolrunners have slow boot times with the exact same wiring in place on the exact same console. I did 2 rgh's today no problem but the 1 chip just didn't want to boot remotely quick in either console.

I want to think its a impact problem. Was just curious to see if anyone else who has installed quite a few has run into similar issues. Thanks for the input I'll continue to investigate and report back.

Oh and I wanted to add I wasn't trying to blame the coolrunner or anything just trying to get to the bottom of the issue. Whether it be a problem with programming or something else. Heck my mailman is pretty rough on how he stuffs my mail as well. So who knows.

First thing I would try is shortening the CPU_RST wire and verifying it is soldered correctly to its point.

Although the other chip may boot fine etc., different chips can and do give different results and will require different configurations.

CR II's you'll need cap, CR II revB bridge A B points on CR revB. As far as shortening CPU_RST, measure it out to 50cm. As too much shortening will increase length of boot.
