Hello Everyone,

Im new to these forums and am noob at console moding and posting on forums for that matter(took me like 10 min to find new post button).

I have read Textbook's tutorial and looked around and I have some questions regarding SATA in general. I don’t have an xbox360 yet because I want to make sure i can put the firmware on with what i have at my disposal (I know a lot depends on the drive). My PC is a Dell(dont need to hear how terrible they are) XPS GEN 5 and according to the manual at their site it has a 955x express chipset. Is this the sata chipset? (I am not seeing a chipset under msinfo32 in the places Textbook describes). i opened the case up and there are 4 SATA connections on the mobo. Will these sata connections work in flashing any Hitachi drive? If I happen to get a MS25 Samsung drive will these work? Finally if i get a MS28 I assume I will have to buy the "VIA VT 6421L PCI SATA Card", correct? I assume any $2 sata cable off new egg will do the job or are there any special considerations? Is there anything else you need to know about my setup to answer these questions?

Any answers or pointers to the right place to look for a noob would be appreciated. Thanks and hopefully I didn’t miss any too obvious answers already on the forum but i am a noob.

youll need to pick up a sata card via 6124 i reccomend tekgems .com for sammy or youll need to find a sil for ht unless its a v78 then sammy one will work either way your chipset will probably not be supported as if you buy new youll get an ms28 or a range of hts

also use a usb thumb drive i used a ntfs boot cd and it took a lot of dinking and to make backups you gonna have to have you 360 open alot or buy a kreon drive but i wouldnt recommend any of this if you new you need to study this stuff then you will be successful young jedi

Your current setup will work for MS25 and all Hitachi drives. You are correct in that if you get an MS28, you will need to purchase the VIA SATA card or bust out your soldering iron (easier to get the card).
