Some questions before downgrading

Hey all,

Im new here, and new to SXOS (well, so new that i dont even have it installed yet). sorry if this is in the wrong subforum (if so, please redirect me), and sorry if it has been asked before.

I recently (few weeks back) got a hackable switch, and when i went to install sxos, i realised that i had done the 7.0 update. ah well, so... ive been waiting for june 15 so far. but then i thought maybe i should just downgrade to 6.2 (till the new sx version gets released). So, i have couple of questions regarding this, can someone please give me some advice?

I looked at one of the downgrade guides, and it seems pretty intimidating (link). But then i realised that the new version of the atmosphere (one that has switch 7.x support) actually supposedly works for homebrew menu/apps, so i could technically install atmosphere, then use ChoiDujour homebrew app to easily downgrade (found a really simple tutorial here too: video). Now... If i do this, does anyone see any problems?

Few things i should mention first. i have a nand backup using the sxos boot menu. i have an emunand using the the sxos boot menu. the backup, emunand and the OFW are all 7.0.

The sole purpose of all this is so i can install sxos easily, not to use atmosphere. Now my main questions are:

- if i do the above (install atmosphere, then use ChoiDujourNX in atmosphere to downgrade), then can i somehow go back and boot into this downgraded 6.2 FW with sxos?
- can i potentially do this downgrade above just to the emunand? If so, how would i go about doing this?
- do you guys see any potential problems with doing the downgrade through atmosphere? for example, would that mean that in the future, if i load up OFW (that was downgraded to 6.2) normally, would my switch become sort of a blacklisted switch (where any nintendo accounts get banned)? i suppose this is what emunand is there for. But if there is no way to downgrade the emunand, im out of options arnt I?
- if im worried about the switch getting blacklisted, what if i do the above mentioned downgrade, install sx, then once sx releases 7.0 support, then use the nand backup to restore OFW and install sx on the emunand? ...and dont connect to the interwebs till the OFW is restored.

...is there any better (more recommended) way to downgrade (ideally just the emunand)?

Thanks guys, appreciate any advice :)

I'll start by saying we do not recommend downgrading at all. There are many issues that can happen if not done correctly and can leave your Switch unusable. We also can not give you any info on using Atmosphere, you will need to find their support page.

If you still want to downgrade that's totally up to you. After you do the downgrade you will need to reinstall the 6.2 update with Choi overtop of itself to correct the boot 0/1 issues allowing you to use SX OS CFW again.

As for emunand you cannot downgrade that as far as I know since Atmosphere does not support emunand. If you already have an emunand on 6.2 than you should be able to just boot SX with the 2.5.3 update. If not, to create one you would need to downgrade first, reinstall the 6.2 update and then create emunand.

Personally I would just play your original games and wait for support, but that is just my opinion.

This.
Just browse through some of the 7.0 downgrade threads out there, and you will see it has been an absolute nightmare for some people.

I bought the sx pro after I had already installed the fw7.0 version, but after searching google, I saw that many did not recommend downgrade, so I'm using kosmos 11 to play and waiting for the new version of sx os.

Make full nand backup, include boot files.
Downgrade with choiNX with SYSTEM INITIALIZE.
Create emunand.
Upgrade ofw to 7.
Enjoy

You can downgrade to 6.1.0 and you don't have to intialize system...

When you INITIALIZE you lose all Bluetooth pairs.

Make full nand backup, include boot files.
Downgrade with choiNX with SYSTEM INITIALIZE.
Create emunand.
Upgrade ofw to 7.
Enjoy
Better if you restore your sysnand at last step.

If you downgrade from 7 without system initialize your system hás a chance to crash.
The safe route is to system initialize

Depends on the content of your switch from 7.0.x, some will always run into error and will have to do system factory reset or they cant boot with sx, ams (cfw or stock).

@decay , downgrade is not recommended, if you can wait, it is safer to wait.
If you can't wait and decide to do the downgrade.
Make sure you have full Nand backup with Boot 0 and Boot 1 and copy it to your computer.
You have to downgrade to 6.2, make emunand from 6.2, upgrade sysnand to 7.0.1
So you will have dual boot, ofw = 7.0.1 sysnand, sx = 6.2.0 emunand

I love using SX more than other CFW so I downgraded my switch.

Should AutoRCM be enabled or better disabled while backing up SysNAND, downgrading and creating EmuNAND?

It doesn't matter.

When you restore your sysnand to 7.0.1 (from your backup) the autorcm feature gets back to its state when you made the backup.

IF you had a clean sysnand and you want a clean sysnad NEVER upgrade it with choidujourNX... restore your backup is the safer way.

Thanks for the responses guys. Seems like the overwhelming consensus is that the safe option is it wait. I will consider this (...June 15 feels further and further every day).

If i however do decide to do the downgrade, this seems like the correct way to go about it (thanks for that):
Make full nand backup, include boot files.
Downgrade with choiNX with SYSTEM INITIALIZE.
Create emunand.
Upgrade ofw to 7.
Enjoy
I do have one more question in regards to this (which i sort of asked, but i think lot of you didnt know or skipped over), but might be helpful for other users also considering the downgrade. currently there are 2 ways (maybe more, but i linked 2 on my main post) to do the downgrade. 1 using ChoiDujour without any aid (this doesnt allow downgrade to 6.2, you have to downgrade to 6.0 and upgrade to 6.2, also LOT of steps involved), and 2nd using ChoiDujour Homebrew App (thanks to atmosphere's 7.0.x support we can actually run this and downgrade super easy). I guess i would like to know more about these two options of downgrading, is the 2nd option actually perfectly fine (if the end purpose is to create an emunand with it and use SX, then restore back the OFW with nand backup?).

...sorry, i can totally understand if no one has experience with this or dont want to comment because its a different product. im not really looking for instructions on how to do it, i can find that on my own, i just want to know if anyone know if its a bad idea or not (any red flags etc).

Was that difficult? Did you lose any data?

Friendly bump as I'm also hoping to get an answer here. New to the scene and considering this since I've been sitting on my SXPro for like 2 weeks. Thx in advance.

I'd recommend waiting. Play your original games in the mean time. If you do not do the downgrade correctly, you can end up with a paper weight. Just my suggestion.

I downgraded with AMS and choidojourNX without system initialise option. Worked perfectly. Made a NAND backup at first.
Only thing I don't really get is what to do with AutoRCM. Choidujour enabled it and people say if I disable I burn my fuses. I left it enabled by now.

I have sysnand 6.2 now, how can i update to 7.0.1? Did you update to 7.0.1?

No to clarify, I was in SYSNAND 7.0 before I even started anything with SX OS. So now I'm at SYSNAND 7.0 and CFW 6.2

  1. Created SYSNAND backup using SX PRO
  2. Launched Atmosphere through SX PRO and downgraded to 6.2 with Choudujor
  3. Created Emunand
  4. Restored my original SYSNAND
