1) is the eeprom really only 256 bytes? the one i get from the x3 ftp admin folder is 256bytes and i want to make sure i'm getting the right one for backup.

2) does the hdd lock on the 'lock key' or the 'encryption key' because when i locked my 200gig WD the lock key was different for each one but it would still load both my new and origional hdd.

i just want to clear these up incase something happens because i dont want to lose a 200gig hdd if my xbox happens to die.

Cheers,
-Jeff

Off the subject but did you ever figure out why some of your games we're locking up or freezing?

1) yes the epprom is 256 bytes

2) when you lock your HD is uses the serial number and the epprom to generate the lock keys, thus different HD's have different keys but can still be used in the xbox because when the xbox decodes the keys with the epprom, it works cause that's the epprom it was encoded with.

if you don't plan on playing live a lot just leave the hd unlocked

yeah, it was my soldering i think, after i resoldered it has only froze twice and that wasnt even after 6 hours of play so i guess its fixed.

gamersha794: thanks, that cleared up alot, i thought 256bytes was a little too small for the eeprom but if it works, oh well.

Thanks Alot.
