Some simple, short questions

Greetings,

To be short, I'm going to be likely picking up my first 360 this black friday and I'm deciding betwen: New slim 'e' 4GB, Corona v6 VS. Used Phat from Gamestop (both $99 USD). There are two things I care about: Power Consumption and Boot Times. (Don't care bout onlineplay, ease of installation, prolly other things)

  • Are the new 'Slim Proto' kits that Xecuter may release someday soon going to be ideally on par with R-JTAG boot times?

  • Are there other better options aside from R-JTAG and the new slim chips?

  • Can Xbox Classics backups be run from an external HDD or is it only available from an internal?

  • If I go for a Phat what's the ideal mobo I should look for?

Anything you want to add or advice is appreciated too. Thanks

Thank you, thats exactly what I needed to know.

Does you or anyone happen to know how comparable R-JTAG on a Jasper compares to Slim Proto in boot times? That's a major concern of mine.

Also, do older style Slim models operate better when modded compared to the new 'e' models (Corona v5 and v6).

If you get the slim try and get one that isnt 4GB if you ever want to put a demon in it. obviously with some hard work and a chip swap you could convert the nand to a 16mb, but i would rather have the hdd over a tiny 4gb.

I hate to ask but what is a 'demon'? Is that like for dual-nand?

I plan on hooking up an external to it and using FSD, should I still consider a 250GB model? they're like a hundred bucks more unfortunately... and I always thought I could pick up a HDD off ebay and put it into a 4GB.

Am I missing anything here?

If you have no plans to do a dual nand setup, then ignore the demon comment.
Well, I might possibly be interested in doing one down the line. It's not a priority but is there anything I should know just incase I do decide to dual nand?

Avoid corona 4gb consoles that is. There are trinities out there with 4gb modules but 16 MB nands. These are my preferred console under any circumstance. They come with a flashable drive (usually) and usually boot with decent enough times on a cr rev c. Just my two cents.

Thanks all

Are there any other benefits to having a 250GB model over the 4GB aside from the extra space?

Are the internal HDDs you find all over ebay and the like crap or are they reliable?

Lastly can a modded 360 slim go above 320GB internal HDD space or are they locked to 250/320 just like legit systems are?

Does a demon or dual-nand affect boot times at all?

Thanks again for all the help

I see no reason as to any benifit apart from space. Hard drives for retail side would have to be a official Microsoft drive . But the rgh side could be any 2.5 sata upto a 2tb I believe the largest for the retail side would be 320gb. As for boot times I think the retail would be normal boot times and with all the new kit that is just in the mist of getting released I would expect rgh boot times of from instant to nap out 15 seconds

I dont think you mentioned if youre modding yourself or getting a pro to do it. If youre getting a pro to do it and have a 4gb nand they should be able to swap it to a 16mb nand at request.
I'll be doing it myself, so maybe I'll just steer clear of dual-nands

Can I hire someone later to swap one out later?
