Sorting out 2.6 Bios issues

Decided to build a 2.6 box after a successful 3 build. However, I am confused as to the EXACT - LITERAL steps needed to get this right. I don't want to waste a chip - mainly b/c it takes so long to get them.

Things I *think* I understand:

1. 2.6 always flashes to bank 1
2. Banks 1 and 2 are made up of two (each) 256k slots.
3. I need a 512k bios flashed on Bank 1
4. I have X2.4983 Bios. It is 256k.

This line is very confusing - the bold part:
"Flash a 512k X2 4983 Bios" So does this mean use a bank? Does it mean I have to find a 512k bios? Do I have to create one? (see below) Do I upload two 256k bios?

This is where it gets sketchy. I can http flash with zero problems. Disabled my firewalls and picked up the xbox nic immediately. I tried putting x2.4983.06 over there. Flashes ok - shuts down - I boot up right back to 3.0.1. So I tried x2.4983.67 (another 256k bios = total 512k) - same story.

I thought I understood I needed a 512k bios. Back to the boards: In my research it seems I stumbled over something at XBscene. They say I have to use a bios tool that creates a 1mb bios file. To me this basically means I can't reflash without a programmer since no flashbios will be available to me any longer. If this tool is need or a bios must be created - why is not mentioned in the "6 easy steps" thread above? Plus, this is LARGER than 512k.

So now, I am utterly confused. Can someone part the clouds and shine some sun down on me???

I saw a ton of info for 1.6 and 1.6b boxes over there. This one is a 1.2 box - pretty sure. If not it is older.

Thanks.

Right

The 2.6 is a 1MB chip (2 x 512k banks).

Forget about X2 4983 - just get X2CL 5035 (vOld) and flash it to your chip. It's already 512k and will do the job nicely.

The reason why the 256k BIOSes failed is because you needed to fill the bank. You can use X2 BIOS Manager to resize a BIOS accordingly.

Ok Thanks Martin. So just send over the 5035 vOld and since it is 512 - no worries. That is certainly more my style. Thanks and I will post up the result.

I have another question... will 5035 vOld handle both small (80 gig) and LARGE HD (250 gig)? Thanks

I flashed over 5035 and it was perfect the first time. Of course it went to error 13 after flubber. So slayers disc is loading as I type.

Thanks for the info.

I will post up final results.

Everything works just fine. Thanks again for all the help. Another successful mod! With the help of team xecuter community of course!
