Hi.

i have an xbox that stopped outputting sound. It does this both with and without a modchip. And sound is absent in both games as well as boot-flubber... It DID work for 13 months...

Does anyone know where to look, what to check etc? I spotted a slightly burned spot on the back of the mobo near the av/connection. I do not know how that particular area is supposed to look. The metal-casing inside the xbox-case is coloured at the same spot, so maybe the mobo touched the metal-casing???

Anybody? Thanks,

Raoul

Flashed a drive that used to read backups, now only Genuine

I flashed a drive about a month and a half ago and all the games played absolutely perfectly. Now, here I am a month and a half later and the drive will only play genuine copies. Backups have been tested on another flashed drive and work perfectly.

When putting the backup in and loading, after about a minute, of which halfway through we hear an attempt to spin up an load, the xbox says "Open Tray"

However, with genuine games it takes about the same period of time to load but does indeed eventually load.

Any ideas would be brilliant, I am thinking about reflashing the drive just to see.

Thanks in advance.

as stated above this is due to a weak laser try the pot tweak then retry

Thanks for quick response.

POT Tweak will fix laser in general, but does it also explain why it plays genuine and not backups? Lasers are lasers?

I'm an idiot, but please correct me.

Thanks for responses again.

Backups are harder on the laser to read. The only thing I can think of is that manufacturers put more protective layers on blank discs than what are put on the original game discs, thus making the laser work harder to read them. I'm not certain if that is the case though.

Originals are pressed! Copies are burnt! - Pressed discs are a LOT easier for the laser to read.

Re: Flashed a drive that used to read backups, now only Genu

Pressed disks have actual physical grooves on the disk that the laser bounces off of to read a return or not.

Burned disks "burn" black dots onto the bottom to simulate a grove and have the laser not return. Lasers have a much easier time reading a physical groove then a fake burned dot.

So yes a laser is a laser, but it depends on the media. Its like saying, my car works fine on the road, but off road its very bumpy and stopped working. A car is a car right?? WRONG
