Just to see if I got it. If I buy a 16D2S drive, I'll have to take just the PCB of the drive and put it on my 16D4S (0225). After this, I get the key of my 0225 and spoof it with the LT+ 1.91 for DG-16D2S.You can use any drive you want.....
but the drive will not fit correctly, as the phat ones are too big for your 360. You would need to take the pcb from the replacement drive and insert it into the slim drive.
Please remember, that if you do this, you will most likely be seen by M$ and flagged straight away, and future updates will also be most likely unable to install, prevent future upgrading, without your original drive
also. spoofing (Pretending) one drive to look like another is no longer support by LT, it can be detected by M$
And as to which firmware, the firmware of the drive you purchased.
You can sometimes by slim drives for the 360, but authentic 360 lite-on slim drives, will all lock as soon as updated. so you will have the issue having unlock the drive

Im wondering this too...Just to ask/confirm, if you flash a unlocked 9504 PCB to 0225 fw (1.91) if/when you update it will lock?
Please someone to confirm this. blakey8, if games wont play then it is the same as say "not possible". What would be the goal to do this if games wont work? It's possible as already stated by Goldensavage but I doubt you will be able to play any games and you won't be able to update your console either.
Great first post, very sensible, clear and concise information :cool2:Please keep in mind that new games such as Gears of War 3 are using xgd3. I recently experienced a problem on a customers Xbox that had a Benq drive spoofed as a Samsung MS25. I got it to update by installing a spare MS25 I had then putting in the flashed Benq. Burnt games played fine but the new xgd3 format games give an E66 error when you try and launch them. The only way to fix this was to put in the correct drive (MS25) and this got it working. You could possibly face this same error since the slim will be looking for a dg-16d4s but it will find a dg-16d2s (or whatever other drive you put) when it boots xgd3 games. It wont matter if you flash the drive to 1.91 it will see the wrong drive and and will give e66. I cant say for sure that this will in fact happen to you but it is something to keep in mind. I would recommend you just get your Slim flashed correctly and by someone that is experienced. I myself charge $40 for all slims winbond or macronix so you should be able to find someone that does it for a comparable rate near you. Even if you have to ship it out you can send only the PCB to save on shipping.
Thanks for info, much appreciated. But XGD3 aside, do you know for sure if a key from a slim 0225 (winbond) spoofed to liteon 02510C (phat) and swapping their PCBs to the slim would work with actual backups??Please keep in mind that new games such as Gears of War 3 are using xgd3.
