Hey everyone,

So i downloaded the SSB ultimate game that bricks your console (want to see whats going on inside)...

I was wondering if i install this on my sd emunand and it bricks my console, shouldnt we still be safe? As it would only corrupt the emunand? Would you just have to delete emunand from the sd card and set it up again? If not, surely that would be fake advertisement.

AFAIK thats the point right? I am not goint to try this as im not 100% sure... can any mod clarify this?

You would think that emunand would protect you from all nand corruption, as the nand R/W has been redirected by the firmware to the emunand. Now, nintendo can get around this by corrupting the nand chip directly, and skipping the emunand all together. I do not know how these brick games actually work though, so this is mostly a guess, try it at your own risk, and let us know. Just back up the stock nand first, just incase.

We have reports that the bricker has been rewritten to corrupt the nand no matter if you are in emunand or not. This is something TX has discussed. Hopefully some protection is put in place. Also the brick code is delayed. You may get 10-15 of game play before the brick code is executed.
@Game_Over m8, theres anyway to check if the XCI or the NSP have the Brick code injected ?

Ok so using the explorer i couldnt figure anything weird or dangerous so i installed and ran it.

for me there was no delay, it instantly crashed, drained my battery and that was it.

I had to charge my battery with my other switch to get it atleast to rcm... couldnt do anything in ofw nore cfw so im guessing it attacked my nand as opposed to the emunand...

restored did the trick tho (i was thinking i would have some trouble here)

so yeh, my findings are:

- that the explorer cant realy detect anything bad
- emunand does not protect you from these 'viruses'

Do it at your own risk

I'm curious: Would Switching to a type of emuNAND fully on the microSD card close this vulnerability? I get that using the official NAND is going to be faster, but having at least the option might give people some things to try.

I'm curious about this as well. Personally, I buy all my games so this doesn't really affect me, but what if Nintendo started to flood the internet with bad update files? Even a windows application that can scan a file for malicious code would be helpful to have, if not a check at the level of the SX OS installer. In the meantime, I'll probably get my game updates from a second switch just to be safe.

Or better yet. Wait for the game to release and buy a copy.
... and if Nintendo decides to inject malicious code into other files? like game updates or homebrew? What would stop them from doing that? This is a tactic very similar to the old days of Napster and MP3 sharing, where infected files were released into the wild to scare people away. At first it was just specific songs, but then it expanded to innocent sharing.

It's definitely worrisome that the emuNAND can affect the official NAND.
