a lot can happen and change in 18 months !
For SSD technology? Not really... while it's true that read/write speeds continue to improve over time, the LiteOn drive I borrowed was from a Dell laptop that was manufactured back in January.

the hardware doesnt utilize the benefit of SSD storage.
Considering what I found with my early tests above, I have to disagree. The load times when starting GTA V were reduced by nearly 75%. I anticipate other games with heavy disk utilization to be significantly reduced (e.g. loading races in Forza 4, loading stages various FPS, etc.)

You didn't state what model HDD you had in your retail caddy?
I haven't cracked open the HDD caddy yet. It's the drive that came with the first batch of XBox slim models in late 2010.
Look guys, I'm not saying that everybody should rush out and buy an SSD for their consoles. It's just that comments like "SSD = Pointless" really irked me, especially when they came from an Administrator who didn't back up his claim. I spent a fair bit of time yesterday performing the HDD swap, and the end result turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The hardware
does benefit from this upgrade.
If you're happy with your console's current performance, then by all means stick with your current drive. However, since I have no plans to pick up a next-gen console anytime soon, and I have a significant number of games that I haven't even started playing yet, I'm seriously thinking of upgrading my console with an SSD. Also, thanks to my benefits plan at work, I can even claim the drive through my Wellness spending account

.
