DICE's Patrick Bach has spoken up to reassure Battlefront fans that the studio won't just churn out a Battlefield clone set in the Star Wars universe. "We don't want Star Wars plus Battlefield," said Bach, speaking to IGN. "because that would be boring, right? "In general, we wouldn't build a game that is a copy of someone else's game," Bach said. "We couldn't do that. We're too stubborn and too annoying for people to think we could do that." Bach also admitted that Star Wars: Battlefront is in the very early stages of development, so DICE is still "figuring out what we want to build" while it "looks at the history of the Battlefront franchise to reverse engineer it...to find out what it was supposed to be."
DICE was considered by many to be the perfect studio to revive the oft-troubled Battlefront franchise. Bach revealed that LucasArts shared the same sentiment. "[They] wanted us to build a Battlefront game," he said.
The new Star Wars: Battlefront was officially announced in a blink-and-you-miss it trailer featured as part of EA's pre-E3 conference, and will be developed using DICE's Frostbite 3 engine. Excited?
