Star Wars KOTOR2 glitch running from hdd?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I did a search on it, and I couldn't find anything. I just recently got KOTOR2 and was copying it to the hdd cuz I'm so lazy and don't feel like getting up to switch games. As a matter of fact, I am copying it to the hdd right now, but anyways... I was on xbox-saves.com looking for anything interesting, and I came across a couple saves for KOTOR2 that say something like "use this save to avoid blackscreen bug @ pegsus fuel depot w/droid - NTSC-US" I read some comments of other saves and it was said that the bug happens when you are running the game from the hdd. I was wondering what this bug was (is it really just a black screen?), and why it happens. I have not encountered this place yet, and I don't want to mess up when I get to it playing off the hdd. I hope someone knows some information about this, I don't wanna mess up, but I guess if all else fails, I can just use the save game that I found.:p

i ran into this a little while ago as well... there's a part in the game where you control a droid, after you access a terminal, the droid gets shot and blown up by something... that's when the screen goes black... you can hear audio and access the menu, but that's it. I ended up deleting the game off my HD.

It's not that far into the game either.

I read into it some more.. the little information I can find.

someone said "You can fix the HD glitch by altering the swdir.ini". I have not looked into this yet, but will soon.

I'm guessing that cuz it's on the hdd, it is still trying to access some files from the dvd rom, and if you dont have the disc in there, then it wont load it and it will get stuck. Well, that is just my guess.. prolly not right tho.

When i was playing that game i just used the disk to get past that one spot then played off the hdd as soon as i was past it. I think there's 1 more glitch spot near the end of the game but i never got that far.

That link above didnt work, can you supply a link to the save to bypass the black screen? I have the same exact problem.

I wasn't trying to post a link.. i'm not sure why it put http:// in front of it... weird! Just do a search for Star Wars on xbox-saves.com.

-------------------
I just now started to play the game. It is kind of confusing... so far it is going well.

I ftped to the game dir, and opened up the file "swdirsXbox.ini", this is what the file contains:
Code:
[Alias]
HD0=d:\
OVERRIDE=d:\Override
ERRORTEX=d:\Errortex
TEMP=z:\Temp
MODULES=d:\Modules
LOGS=t:\Logs
LOCALVAULT=d:\LocalVault
DMVAULT=d:\DMVault
SERVERVAULT=d:\ServerVault
STREAMMUSIC=d:\STREAMMusic
TEMPCLIENT=z:\Tempclient
SAVES=u:\
CURRENTGAME=z:\currentgame
TEXTUREPACKS=d:\texturepacks
STREAMWAVES=d:\StreamWaves
GAMEINPROGRESS=z:\GAMEINPROGRESS
REBOOTDATA=z:\rebootdata
LIPS=d:\Lips
do you think chaging all the instances of "d:\" to "f:\games\starwars\" would fix it? I am not at that part of the game, so I can't test it right away. Any thoughts?

My friend has the OPPOSITE problem. The game had a bug when he played it from DISC. When he played it from the HDD, it worked fine. By the way, that .ini file fix is supposedly bogus. Apparently, changing those directories doesn't do anything.

everyone seems to be saying that using debug mode in evox and telnet'ing to the xbox in game works... i guess i'll try that when i get to that point.

I played off the HDD upto that point then just loaded from the disk and played from my previous save game to get past that point. The ini file didn't work fo me either so I guess its rubbish. I'm assuming you have the disk of course as this is the backup of your game you're playing ;)

I did that same method to get past the T3 lock up point, but later on I had saving difficulties when I used the back-up again. Like it locked up at a certain point when I tried to save.....Hmmm..I still need to try telnet, It seems to have worked or others [According to the other users of the forum in the link I supplied that goes to X-S]

I went on to finish the game off the HDD without any further problems.

Yea I got the disc, its just that I lug my box around a lot and I don't even think to take game discs with me. I guess if I get stuck, I'll just save it before the problem, and wait til I get back to my house with the disc.

I haent played the game enough, but some of the original characters are back, like T3-M4 and HK-47 [You find him in the cargo storage of the Ebon Hawk and have to repair him from damages].
