Hi,

I have an original xbox360 and am trying to play movies / TV shows from a USB disk / external hard drive, which used to work but doesn't now. It now says a media update is required, status code: 51-C00DF236.

I have recently purchased a wireless adapter, connected the xbox to the internet and done the required as I thought this may be the issue.

Can anyone please advise?

Just to let u know that this is a tx support forum.
If it's not firmware or rgh/jtag related and if you are completely clueless as to what you are talking about, then feel free to post in here and hopefully you will be educated :)
Anyhow... In my experience the console has to be connected to xbox live to play said videos even after the required media update has been downloaded. Tricky tricky M$. An alternative would be to use a media transcoder such as "PS3 media server" It is a free program that creates a DLNA device to serve the media to your console.

Apologies, I came across this site when I googled how to fix the problem and saw a bunch of x-box symbols around, so figured it was the right place to ask.
I know next to nothing about game consoles and back end of computers... anything outside of Microsoft applications used for work lol.

@Nubleet - that's very interesting. Cheers for your assistance :)
I signed up for an x-box live trial, which enabled the update to be done easily and to play said media.

Are you saying if I discontinue the x-box live gold package (Which I plan to do) that this will cease to work?
I'll get one of my tech mates to translate what you just said, and see if I can do that haha Cheers!

I think it should still work offline now that you have the media update installed. If not, The Xbox live silver account is free and should work then. I'm just giving my best guess. I've only ever had Gold account.
