I just recently bought a switch that is unpatched, I'm really new to modding and unsure if I should stay on 4.1.0 and use the latest sx os or is it completely safe to update to 6.2.0 as of this time and use sx os with it's full features. Sorry for the noob question but I really have to make sure. Thanks

It is completely safe to update and really a personal preference for people if they do or don't. The newest Nintendo FW 6.2 works on all versions of SX starting with 2.4. What you can do is setup emunand and then update that to 6.2 if you want to keep your OFW on 4.1.
Make sure you backup your nand before doing anything though and if you choose to just update to 6.2 without emunand make sure to make a new back up of the nand on 6.2
