!!! tl;dr is at the bottom. !!!

So I run into this issue every time I decide to play around in my consoles;
The 360 released almost NINE years ago now, and still does a great job. However, with all of the progress made in modding, it's VERY hard to stay up to date. It seems the easy solution would be to utilize your best friend: Google. However, a popularly hit forum from 3 years ago may take priority over one that's brand new, and you end up reading 2 hours into something that's outdated and incorrect.
Now, I noticed that the "Ultimate 360 modding guide" (paraphrasing), states up-to-date. However, there don't seem to be timestamps on the edits, which makes it complicated to find exactly the last time it was really updated.
My current situation is this: I want to basically make my brother a 360 Arcade machine. I'll preload a ****ton of games on a TB drive and let him play to his will. I just want to make sure, before I JTAG/RGH/LOL an xbox, that I'm really using an up to date method. I modded the firmware on my original 360 with JungleFlasher x years ago, and now I'm ready to get a bit more serious; hopefully without giving up and buying a pre modded machine. If we're being honest, I would rather spend the extra money for an easier overall experience, but that's just me.

TL;DR
Looking for an entirely up to date (Today is 04/01/2014), "WTF am I doing and what is an xbox" guide so I can get back into modding.

God only knows I'll be half way into soldering some bomb-looking device into a wall outlet of my house, somehow connected to the 360, when someone will say, "Oh why are you doing that? That's the old method. Now all you have to do is press the power button with a banana"

Thanks to all the mods and community for providing a great hub; TX has already been a great help.

Honestly this site contains everything you need to know... You just have to read. There are stickies in each section. First it would depend on which model xbox you are going to use then you can go from there...
