Hey guys,

Im still having problems trying to update from 4.2 to 5.2

Ive left a few posts and had some really good replys but still. Nothing has seemed to work. I think i am using the 0800 disk incorrectly. But if thats the case, im not sure how to do it.

My drive is currently an ms25 flashed with 4.2b. I never spoofed the firmware as ms25 when i flashed the drive, so at one stage i thought that maybe it was now an ms28 and that i would have to do the bad flash method. But in textbooks tutorial it says that the new x360sam automatically spoofs the firmware to what your original firmware was. i.e (ms25).

So thats whats left me to think that im using the 0800 disc wrong. When in dos, i type samread xxxxxxx xxxxx and hit enter. Because i havnt inserted the 0800 disc it comes up with Directory already exists blah blah, and then instead of showing my chipset it just shows Port 170 blah blah and hangs there. WHICH I KNOW IS NORMAL.

IF I DO USE THE 0800 disc. I type samread xxxxxxx xxxxx, and hit enter. And it loads a while and then shows the 3 options that it showed when i first flashed my drive.
1: IDE Sec Master
2: ICH5 Pri Master
3: ICH5 Pri Slave

No matter which one i select. It just shows Port something, and just hangs again. And doesnt start reading the firmware.

Am i using the 0800 disc wrong? or is my drive just screwed?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

(Hope you were able to follow all of that). 8O

You are right and wrong

Correct: You seem to be using the 0800 disk wrong. It does not seem to be disabling the firmguard. Are you sure you burnt it to +R DL disk?

Incorrect: Spoofing a MS25 has nothing to do with the flashing behaviour. Your 4.2 system WILL behave like a MS28 either way (as far as flashing goes). As an alternative to using the 0800 disk, you can simply do the bad-flash method, which would also work.

Yes it is a +R DL. I burnt the iso with Alcohol 120%, that should be alright, right?

The thing is i dont really want to go spend $ on a VIA Chipset, and honestly, my computer just isnt really worth it!

But, it seems i have no choice. Any other reasons the 0800 disc isnt working?

Thanks

I don't think it has anything to do with the 0800 disc actually. FirmGuard is essientally an MS28 firmware. The problem with the MS28 firmware isn't that it would not show up in the MTKFlash list - it always did and still does. The problem was after we selected it. Even if the 0800 disc wasn't working, you should see XTREME or your sata chipset in the mtkflash list.

I'd remake your mtkflash using Xtreme Boot Maker, and this time use both MS28 options. For one, it will stop that port error you were getting before.

Im not sure but try burning 0800 iso with dvd decrypter instead, unless you already got it sorted out!

So are you saying i should create my mtkflash for an ms28 drive, but then just follow the steps for flashing an ms25? or are u saying to do the bad flash method?

Coz i dont have a VIA Chipset.

Ok ive tried a few other methods and they didnt work either.

Still the same problem. When i get to the Port selecting stage. It comes up with -
Port: 1f0, Master/Slave: a0 and just hangs there and doesnt do anything.

My guess is that i AM using the 0800 disc incorrectly, and my pc cant see my drive. But wether i use it or not. My port selection is always there. Either way it just hangs at that Master/slave thing.

Let me just double check that when you burn the 0800 iso, its not like backups, how you have to burn the .dvd file is it? I just burn the actual iso straight onto a +R DL right?

Thanks.

the 0800.iso does not need a *.dvd nor does it need layer settings just burn to a DL dvd with imgburn

but like textbook said you should still be seeing the drive in the bios etc did you follow the instructions to create a new mtkflash?

plus how long are you leaving the 0800 disk in the drive? i put the disk in and upon closing the drive i count to 25 and it works everytime

Yeah i do see the drive in the bios.

Its just when i select the drive it hangs on Port: 1f0, Master/Slave: a0

And does nothing from there.

I know how you feel I am having the same problems flashing my ms25 it sees my xbox drive on bios as the 3rd slave/master but when i try to flash i only recieve 2 options on where to flash it and when i choose either extreme master or extreme slave it just sits there and ive let it set there for up to 5mins and still not write anything to the xbox I am not using a 0800 disk im using just a usb jumpdrive
