It only e74 when I have no drive attached, however without it it boots straight into xell (non hdmi). When it searches for a drive, instead of showing the reported drive, it shows 0x the all F and unknown after it

Try putting a pin header across pins 4 & 6 where the drive power cable plugs in on the motherboard.

Have you tried putting pressure on the HANA chip?

yea, made no difference.

im using talisamans, and when i removed the drive this time, there seemed to be power surges because the fans went up and the leds lit up momentarially before returning to normal. it did this several times until i turned it off :/

I would check the components around the socket at J1D1. You might have a bridge/short.

It's the DVD power socket

nope, nothing there... even tried a different power cable

one of the nand reading points is bridged, would that cause any errors?

No idea, but considering it shouldn't be bridged I guess you're best to remove it!

No more E74. Hollow victory tho. I'm now getting rrod error code 0110.

So it's possibly GPU related.

Or ram chip related, yes. Xell can still boot tho.

Edit: in fact I just dumped the NAND and updated it to 13599 using xellous

Ok. I trust ya . Also, it doesn't go straight to rrod, the fans speed up for .3 of a sec at 6 sec intervals roughly 3 times before the rol responds.

ok - that COULD be RAM. I had this on a console and you could hear the fan speed change.

Try this:

Put pressure on one of the RAM blocks and turn on the console. Start with the top two NOT under the GPU. Then try the underside 4. failing that, try the two under the GPU heatsink.

It's possible one of the blocks has a cold solder joint. If you get it to boot with pressure on one of them, that's the one that needs to be reflowed.
