Hi there - Wow, it's my first post! 2 years after first coming to the site and a number of xboxs modded, I've run into my first problem that I was not able to solve just by trolling the forums... which says alot about the knowldge amassed here!
Anyway not sure if this should be placed in Non-79, 79 or JTAG...this is a bit complex so I'll give the details as quickly as I can...
PROBLEM: I purchased a broken xbox from a coworker for $20. They told me that the xbox was not reading discs and that it HAD had RROD at one time. The RROD previously been fixed via the penny trick (I know not the prefered method but I didn't do it - and its working! :biggrin
but the drive is still not reading discs (Original games, Backups, DVDs, Music CD's etc.). When you put a disc in, be it a game or a movie, the drive keeps saying "Play DVD"
To make a long story short, after dumping the original firmware and Key, I flashed LT to it... still all I get is "Play DVD". I assumed that it could be a bad laser and atempted to adjust the POT however that didn't seem to do anything eihter.
Next I decided to buy a replacemtn drive. The drive I received was a brand new Hitachi 79. Because I didn't want to mess around with AP2.5 I went ahead and sawped the 47 PCB into the 79 drive... fired it up everything seems to check out in Jungle Flasher, put it in the XBOX, same result as above... WTF!?
Upon reading about other people with simmilar issues, I have come to two conclusions.. 1. I had a bad dump of the original firmware/Key or 2. The mother board in this xbox is for a non-Hitachi Drive?
So my questions are:
1. What are your thoughts on the above senerio?
2. How can I determine what DVD drive my mother board should have
3, If the MOBO did not come with Hitachi can I spoof it? (not clear on that never had to)
4. What's the easiest way to get the KEY from the mother board?
5. If I have to get the key from the Mobo, should i just JTAG it? I've not JTAG an xbox yet...
6. If I JTAG it, a JTAG box can use any model DVD drive correct?
Despite posting in the Newbie forum I have stumbled my way through moding a number of xboxs including a slim via kamikaze hack.... so I am semi knowedlegable (or I can at least read and follow directions)
Thanks for the help - this site and the products are amazing!
