hmm... it just says it is copying files but absolutely nothing happens. it just sits there pretending to work with no progress until you hit cancel. Thanks though!
You've definitely a routing or transfer problem somewhere.

Can you run just a crossover cable between the two? Remember to set the PC NIC to the same network as the Xbox if needbe.

Do you happen to have any other firewall software installed?
Zone Alarm?
Windows Firewall?

Just a last minute thought there!

I have been using a crossover this whole time! no firewalls either! this is so wierd! i have done everything to try and troubleshoot it but it doesn't make sense, because I can send anything and everything over the network to the xbox, but not from! well, continued help would be nice if anyone has more ideas.

Right. It could be a suspect cable, try swappng the ends round/with a different cable.

The fact that it wont work with either your dashboard or BIOS does make me wonder if its the PC rather than the box.

you mention that the xbox has been connected to the pc with a crossover cable. this would mean that you have two network cards in the PC? try disabling everything on the PC bar the network interace you're using and try again.

To rule out your windows install, you could download and boot off've a knoppix cd...

haha okay so all I did was move the xbox to the office where the router is and plugged it directly into there, and now my transfers are super fast and perfect! what a relief! I will have to check my crossover cable out, even though i am pretty confident in it still... but ah well now I know how to transfer files back to the pc wohoo!

Can you still get roster updates?

Im wondering if when NHL 11 comes out or just with NHL 10 if your xbox is banned can you get roster updates? Or is there any other way to get them?

Re: Can you still get roster updates?

I'm pretty sure the only way to get them is to connect your XBox to Live and download them, like you normally would.

If your XBox is banned, I don't think there is any way for you to get roster updates. You can't connect to Live with a banned XBox and you need to connect to Live to get the updates.

Re: Can you still get roster updates?

Jay:

It depends. I haven't played NHL, but if you load the game when connected to Xbox Live, does the game automatically download the new rosters, or do you have to select this from in the game menus?

If it loads automatically, there are torrents available that have the game updates in a collection. I'm on a private tracker and we just got a bundled set of updates last week. I'll copy and paste the description so you can read for yourself:

These are so called "Title Updates", Xbox 360s version of "Patches" on PC games.
They fix glitches, make the game recognize DLC etc.

Title Update for a certain game can be downloaded free on Xbox Live by simply playing the game.

Title Updates are cumulative. This means that you only need the newest title update. So if there is a TU1 and a TU2,
you'll only need to download TU2 because TU1 is already included in TU2.

For the sake of completion, all of the updates will be included in this pack.
Your Xbox knows which one is the newest and will use that.

This pack is for those who can't/don't want to connect to Xbox Live because of JTAG/banned.

JTAG

Transfer the TU files to "HDD1/Cache" on your Xbox 360 hard drive with FTP.

PC

Physically connect the Xbox 360 HDD to your PC and transfer the TU files to "Partition 3/Cache" with Xplorer360.

USB

[1] Update your XBOX 360 console to the latest dashboard version

[2] Get yourself a USB stick with at least 1GB capacity

[3] Format it as a XBOX 360 Memory Unit on your XBOX 360 console via 'Dashboard/System/Storage'

[4] Connect your USB stick to your PC

[5] On your PC, download XTAF.

[6] Run XTAF and click on 'File/Open Drive'. Now move to 'Cache Partition/Cache' and drag your update files into this folder.
This will take some seconds.

[7] Connect your USB stick with the XBOX 360 console and start your game

To delete/clear Cache, go to System Settings/Memory/Y/Clear System Cache/Yes.

---Keep in mind that these are only the things that would automatically update when you launch the game. This file is 1.33 GB in size.

Re: Can you still get roster updates?

Thanks for the long reply random255 but to download rosters in NHL 10 it doesnt do it automatically- you either have to search for an online game and it will tell you to download them, or you can can manually do it by searching through the menus.

Re: Can you still get roster updates?

You could always take your hard drive to a friend's house and use his Live account to get roster updates.

Re: Can you still get roster updates?

You can try using modio, they have roster files and other files people put from various games. Also try google. After you find the latest file you can easily transfer it to you xbox, and since it supports USB now. there isnt any risks. i did this for NBA and Madden games all the time.
