Hello

Have been following the excellent 'Textbook' tutorial and have managed to

open the xbox (not as easy as xbox 1)
Found I have an M28 drive

Installed a PCI VT6421 card (mu m/board has not SATA connection)
Flashed a USB stick with Xtreme bootmaker (which listed the VIA VT 6421 Riad controller)-I am using firmware XTREME 5.2D

BUT, when I get to the SAMREAD command I get

'DRIVE SCANED:
1: IDE SEC MASTER
2: IDE SEC SLAVE
and I cannot get any further-I also tried via the CD method but same outcome

Would really appreciate some pointers
Many thanks

Ok, if you use xtreme boot maker, you should have a selection like this: Xtreme master. That is your ms28. Did you apply follow the tutorial exactly and check the proper boxs?

Thanks caster420

I thought I followed the tutorial but I definately do not see Xtreme master listed when I run SAMREAD
Could it be my PCI SATA card? xtreme boot maker lists it and completes some numbers for the VIA VT 6421 Riad controller automatically but nada later on-the card has 3 possible SATA connections and I have tried 2 of them-not sure if there is an option to turn RAID off somewhere though

I am a bit stumped

Cheers

I have the same chipset. There is no bios for this controller on boot, so you can't change the settings. Try disconnecting all your drives, except for the 360.

Hi,

I have the same card and got simialr issues at the start.
If your card has 2/3 Sata ports ensure the primary port is being used. (can't remember if its 0 or 1, but has to be the first ). I also at the same time had connected this cable to my sata card when creating my Boot disk.

Now when running samread you should at least see "Xtreme master" listed.
From here follow tutorial to the letter.

Cheers hope you get it working...

Ensure you connect it to primary master. Most of the time it's the port closest to the motherboard.
It can be that the drive is not listed the first time, so hit escape when getting the 'menu' and try again.

Got it!!! Many many thanks

It was the connection to the primary port that cracked it, as suggested-worked like a charm after that
Tested it with an original disk and no problems so now to try a backup (once I have mastered that-a kreon drive sounds the safest)

The rear of the xbox looks a bit butchered now though!! Never mind the Microsoft sticker being broken, its obvious some newb (!) opened it-nevermind.

Thanks again

Well, got my DVD drive, flashed with Kreon F/w and bingo!
Backed up all my games, safe from the kids

Many thanks
