Stuck opening 16d5s

I recently purchased (because I'm too lazy to solder and I really suck at it) an xbox with coolrunner 3, the goofy r2d2 sounds, the PCB for the 16d5s blah blah. And everything works fine but I have issues with the drive not closing at times and if I can get the drive to close it will try to open during gameplay and return to xbox dash.

I am thinking this is related to the PCB and the dvd drive itself over the Demon and coolrunner install. I cannot see the dvd drive in Jungleflasher like I can other drives. I have tried to toss an outro / ATA reset at it and an intro and still get nothing. Any ideas or do I need to slap some more money into this thing or did I waste money and this is why it was sold?

just RGH it and move on...who messes with dvd drive anyways? its all about RGH/R-JTAG now adays

With a coolrunner and demon in it I think it is rgh already

OP- as above I agree sounds like a possible kamikaze hack issue did you check to see if it was the original board in it or a ltu?

Yes, I did open it up and it is an LTU board. White in color numbers on it are 11022401 on what I would call the bottom of the board on the white side. If it's an issue with the kamikaze hack I guess I can search around a bit for that but I was hoping it was firmware because I can fix software if there are steps to be had but soldering is not a strong point.

also check the eject sensor cable and switch inside the dvd drive itself.

Check the Ribbon cables and look at the soldering to see how he did.

If it is 16d5s it isn't capable of a Kamikaze anyways, So we can rule that out.

Just sounds like the Ribbon cable to the Eject motor is lose.

Hi there,

I've experienced a similar issue with a slim console in the past.

What I found out, when I opened the console, I checked the ribbon cable coming from the faceplate for any scratches etc, and unplugged the ribbon cable from the RF board and cleaned the end of the ribbon cable (The end that slots into the RF board) with some isopropyl alcohol, to clean any grime or grease off it. Then attached the ribbon cable to RF board and put the faceplate back on, It worked like a charm.

Not saying it is the faceplate ribbon cable, just that it may be worth a shot at fixing it.

However considering you cannot get any info from in Jungleflasher, such as intro the drive, I would say it's a hardware issue, i.e PCB, ribbon cables not seated into slots properly.

Hope this helps ;)

check the flex from faceplate if it still perfect without scratches, try to unplug it and reconnect it again, sometimes if it isn't well connected weird issues with tray happened to me

I have a problem i put the disk in then close it then it wont load fully then i have to open it and back about 6 times to get it working and also when the tray is all the way out when i press the button to close it it wont so i have to press lightly to get the tray back into place to read the disk.... Whats the problem is it the laser and the tray or is it just the laser?
