Stupid question but needs clarification...

Ok done soem reading, but am a little miffed still.

Got an x3 in my box, switch is 1,2,3,4,5 (5 being flash protect.)

now 1 & 2 are on, 3 & 4 are off, 5 is on while im not flashing.

Ok so this morning i used ftp and updated to latest version of the bios, to be presented with a screen saying "flash to banks 1,2,3,4 or 5,6,7,8?

I just chose 1,2,3,4 as that was the first one, but further reading says that you should use banks 5,6,7,8.

So can someone answer my question (flame me for being nooby too), as to what banks should i flash the bios to, and if the answer is either (1,2,3,4 / 5,6,7,8) or both (1,2,3,4 + 5,6,7,8), why?

Ensuring u flash the first (1234) bank only truly applys to 1.6b...this is because both the first bank and the backup contain flashbios3.01 (which does not work on a 1.6b).
Therefore if u flashed over the second bank(5678) (which contains flashbios3.03),and it was not a good flash u would not have any banks remaining to recover and reflash!!

on all other xbox version u have at least 2 locations to boot a working flashbios.

FYI
xbox ver 1-1.5 both 3.01 & 3.03 flashbios work ok
xbox ver 1.6 only 3.01 works (in backup and bank 1)
xbox ver 1.6b only 3.03 works (bank2)

Right..... So are you saying that i should flash both my banks or just keep doing the 1,2,3,4? I dont use flashbios i just upload them via ftp and it does it for me.

I dont know what version x box u have...so do not know if u have flashbios available on backup...
If both banks get screwed then without a working backup flashbios u would have no way to ftp back any bios.

for example i have a 1.6 box
flashbios3.01 (256K) on the backup
1959 on Bank 1 (1234)
3018 on Bank 2 (5678)

ie i load the latest & greatest to my second bank then if there are any bugs in it that affect my setup i can revert back to bank 1.
If for whatever reason i manage to screw up both 1Mb banks then i still have backup available.

So i guess so long as u have a backup flash that works then u could flash into either 1M bank with some confidence that u can fall back to the backup if everything goes wrong.
