Thanks to the Community Forums and the guide, I have just installed X3 successfully on my Xbox1.6 (purchased in october 2004 from bestbuy). The cashier asked me if i wanted the 2 year replacement plan and I almost laughed aloud.
I spent perhaps over a week surfing through and reading the forums and the guides, getting a feel of what i need to do. Then my friend and I set to disassemble, dry run the whole soldering process, tape the chip to the board like the guide suggested, and started the soldering, without a magnifing glass. Extra lighting was needed, and we took time between each solder point, check, and re-check, pulling hard on it afterward to make sure it is solid connection.
After all soldering is done, we put the front panel up and put the case together. I flashed the bios from my bios dvd-r I made according to the flashbios guide, the process ran smoothly. Then after dashboard came on, i connected the xbox to a network connection, pulled all the files off C and E using FlashFXP. THen i turned it off, put in a new 120 gig HD, upgraded the IDE cable to 80pin cable, and made selection to format the HD through dashboard. Then after that, I proceed to copy the files back to new HD, F is the drive that has the rest of the space(I think?). Then I started playing copy of Dead Red Revolver, and all is well. I'll want to copy all the games to my HD eventually, but this is a great start!
To all who has problems, don't get discouraged, check your soldering points, be patient, and be careful, and you will succeed!
