Success & Thanx...A Word To The Wise About Xapt3rs & V1.0 Xboxes

Thanx to everyone for their help in getting my Xbox mods running; both my V1.0s are now functioning properly thanx to doing the pinheader installs. I had originally done a Xapt3r install on both V1.0 motherboards with no luck on either; they kept fragging. But after doing the pinheader install, everything works fine. My guess is that there is some unsolved issue with the Xapt3r install on the V1.0 board. I had also installed a Xapt3r & X3CE on my V1.4 Xbox without a problem, so my experience is that it must be a glitch with it on the V1.0. So, I highly recommend doing the pinheader install not only on the V1.0 Xbox, but on all version motherboards. In the end, it will usually save you time, money & a lot of grief. Just thought I'd write this up to help out anybody with a similar V1.0/Xapt3r frag problem. Hope it saves you guys some trouble. Good luck & good gaming!

There is no problem...

I helped my friend fit a Xapt3r/X3 CE to his 1.0 Xbox, and it worked first time, so I can only echo what the previous poster said, there is no generic problem with the Xapt3r and the 1.0 motherboard.

Well, I could be mistaken, it wouldn't be the 1st time or the last. There seems to be some controversy on whether or not it is neccessary to solder the gray D0 wire on the back of the motherboard for the HD/LAN display when the Xapt3r already hooks up to one on the top of the motherboard. On my V1.0s I had used the Xapt3rs & hooked up the D0 Xapt3r wire to the D0 point on the top of the motherboard. I also soldered the HD/LAN green/red/gray wires to the proper connections in back of the motherboard. Now the wierd thing is that it was fragging out even when I disconnected the HD/LAN connector from the X3CE modchip, thus removing the extra D0 connection. The only time it wouldn't frag is when I disconnected the modchip from the Xapt3r. So, after doing a lot of troubleshooting & testing, I concluded that the problem was either faulty Xapt3rs or an unresolved V1.0/Xapt3r issue. I did the pinheader install on both V1.0s & they now work like a charm. So, there is my train of thought for you. By the way, on V1.4 Xbox I have both D0 points connected & it worked fine the moment I 1st powered it up, so who knows? If anyone has any clue about this issue, please let me know, I'd be interested in getting a clear definitive answer once & for all. Cheers.

Green = HDD led
Red = LAN led
Grey = D0 point

i think you messed when you soldered the grey wire. normally you should have insulated it and solder the rest 2 (green and red). and i have a v 1.0 xbox so i dont see any particular issues with a 1.0 xbox.

Okay, so like I said before, why would it frag after I removed the HD/LAN connector from the modchip? That takes the other D0 connection out of the equation...

Donate, no; sell, maybe... You guys won't believe me, but 250GB is still not enough to hold all my games. I use them for music & DVD's too... And on the eighth day God created the Xbox...

Yes, J, I removed the solder from the V1.0s, then hooked up the Xapt3rs. I assumed that the pins would make better contact if they sat snugly in the holes. Anyway, it's water under the bridge now.
