Installing in New Xbox version 1.6

First tried with the Rebuild PCB. Xbox would would start but would always boot into xbox bios. The external switch would never light up. Has some problems with 3.3v light.

So, after a couple of hours of resoldering and not making any progress, uninstalled the PCB Rebuild, and did the LCP Rebuild with wires.

However, same symptoms, Xbox bios always boots (I have checked the D0 solder 50 times). Also, if the switch is connected, then the 3.3v light will never come on. If i disconnect it, the 3.3v comes on, but xbox bios still starts.

I am at a lost now. I can get both LEDs to come on if I dont connect the switch. However, I can never get it to boot into anything other than the xbox bios. The swtich has never lit up. I have spent about 8 hours checking and rechecking all of the solder points.

Any one have any suggestions on next steps?

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! This is almost the exact same thing I'm running into... I have a 1.6 or 1.6b version xbox.

When I power up, it goes to the xbox bios
I only get ONE blue led on the chip
I do not get the switch to light up
I've checked my 3.3v and D0 point 100x

What am I doing wrong?

Mesh - sounds like you may have a short on the wires going to the panel - remove them from the front panel (if you have isntalled it in) and check for chaffing or damage.

NoWhereman .... I know you've checked and checked, but really, there can't be much else that will prevent it from getting the power it needs. Especially check the LPC rebuild PCB and your extra 5v connection just in case. If you do a search on this site there are also details for an alternate 3.3v connection somewhere.

Good luck.

I am also having the same problem. I jsut did an install on a 1.6 with the new X3 CE and i'm only booting to the Xbox BIOS. I'm not even seeing FlashBIOS. I have chacked all the connections and the chip is showing a blue light on the 5v and the 3.3v point and a red light on Flash Protect. What is going on here?

Scoody .....

What colour is the 'X' symbol on the front switch panel??

If it's red and the Xbox is fragging then it could be a D0 solder problem.

The X is red and the HDD light is solid. I will check the D0 solder. Is there anything else that could be causing it??

BTW, i used the PCB for the LPC Rebuild.

If you disconnect your switch from the chip, do both of the LEDs on the chip come on?

Thanks, I just checked this, both for the wires from the switch, and the wires from the back, and did not see any problems / chaffing / shorts.

ok. I made some progress.

On the tip of someone, I also connected the cyan wire as described here:

http://www.teamxecuter.com/23b/v16/v16_rebuild.jpg

If the switch is connected, then nothing happens. The chip wont even stay on. However, if I disconnect the switch, then stuff happens:

-Tap power switch, xbox boots normally.

-Hold down Power and Eject, it boots into the 3.0.1 bios.

So, the chip kind of seems to be working. Any suggestions on what my next step should be? Do I need to flash the bios? How do I get it to load the mod chip by default?

do you have the X3 or the X3CE because im starting to get very suspicious that there are some curious errors with the X3CE.

fyi, i finally got it working. I wasn't tapping the power switch fast enough, so it would boot into the xbox bios.

If my switch is connected nothing works, but I am not worrying about that right now.

Thanks for everyone's help...

Mes your problem might even sound like something wrong with the eject daughter board. When you tap the switch the cromwell/bios should come up. When you hold the power button for more than a second you should go to the xbox bios. Maybe check for solder splashes on the back of the front switch or eject/power board.
